If I may, my quali was at 50 degrees so I decided I needed a higher grip wheel that retained more heat - Puma LiGHT TECH which is more aluminum than most AMV wheels. With this wheel, the kart was amazing. I kept it on for both heat races and the prefinal and the kart was flying. The prefinal was a bridge too far and I cooked the tire a bit. For the final, I switched to 9F most flexible, least grip wheels that retains less heat. The kart was good but not amazing and I struggled a touch with the drive off the corner.
In retrospect, Lynx which is the same shape as Puma but much more magnesium would have likely been the right choice for the prefinal and final.
I will hazard an answer - no. Get a wheel like 3F or Lynx or MXC that best meet 90% of your needs. Having said this, having 2 sets of wheels is a near requirement for most racing these days. Get the same wheel.
If you are further down the karting experience curve, another approach that I am going to use going forward is 1 set Puma for quali and heats and 1 set Lynx for prefinal and final. The wheels are the same shape and offset so the performance characteristics are (should be) very similar.
I will let you know how it turns out after USPKS Trackhouse in a few weeks.
I was at the factory in Vigonza, Italy today. Stefano Griggio who is running the works bestkart team was there talking go faster parts. Encouragingly Stefano is finding the same things I was saying. New bits are already on the CAD software. Pretty cool.
I’ve been focused on the OK/TaG single speed chassis (model F03), but Prodigy has quite a few 206 guys too so they’ve begun testing and working with the F03 4T for 206 and it’s been very positive.
In Europe they’ve done a lot of testing now with the KZ kart (model F01) and that is also working well it seems. They will be campaigning some big KZ2 races in Europe this year.
Evotec in the UK is focusing on the Minikart as well, which should be strong too based on the design. Those will be coming here too eventually.
