How do you know if a Rotax is legal?

Other then visually seeing that it has a seal, the new style battery box, and airbox. What are other things that indicate you can race it nationally?

That’s pretty much it. You can sanity check that the squish is legal and the carb has all of the stock parts with a legal float height.

Otherwise you need to break the seal to have a look at the inside of the engine to look for any modifications.

It doesn’t have the red colored head does that indicate that it’s older?

Yes it is mostly likely the pre-evo engine. You’d have to check your local series to see if they will allow you to run it.

Sounds like the Rotax logbooks are no longer a thing?

There is a signed and stamped passport that should go with the engine. Engine builder should be logging the seals with each time it’s resealed.
