Any fellas here able to give pros and cons either in PM or thread?
I am finding that I am experiencing much longer recovery periods from intense physical activity with a lot of aches and pains etc. also the usual laundry list of age related problems such as sleep issues, brain fog etc. Yea I am chasing a fountain of youth… but it seems to be a legit thing (trt).
I’m somewhat alarmed by how the recovery period is for me after 4 back to back days of intense karting. Not good. I’m fit, but it seems to be harder now to get back to not feeling like I fought a family of grizzlies.
I did testing and indeed show low t levels which is probably to be expected as we age. The literature in this has changed and it seems that it is not significantly risky for prostrate and cardio as once thought.
Anyhoo, anyone go this route and have thoughts as to whether it is worth exploring further? Did it improve your life?
I was speaking with a 53 year old very athletic colleague who is doing the lady equivalent and it was life changing for her. Granted menopause is different but I’d argue we have man-o-pause that seems similar in some ways.
Yes I will be consulting with my primary… but docs tends to be very conservative, so I thought to ask the community of other old fart karters if this was useful to them or yet another monthly expense of limited benefit.
We put a ton of effort in tuning an engine to get the best out of it, no reason why we shouldn’t do the same with our own body.
TRT is one of the tools, there’s peptides, supplementation, food/diet, exercise, sleep, mental health…I see it as one of the many tools in the arsenal. What’s different is that this one can sometimes be a one way street, once you flip the switch you could be in it for life. So my advice is to fix all the rest first, then evaluate this one with a specialist as the options and results will be wildly different depending on your starting point and where you want to go with it, only a specialist can tell you based on specific tests
Yeah, I’ve got a talk scheduled. I’m a bit apprehensive in that historically it got bad press, but medical studies of late seem to contradict the earlier findings. Thank you!
Even healthcare has moved to a subscription based model… aaargh. This is what scares me a bit… needing to use it forevermore.
Any updates to offer here? I’m 51, and boy I can relate. In pure strength terms I’m just about as good as I’ve ever been, but my basic energy and my recovery are way down to say the least.
I’ve actually been working on this as an issue for the last 4-5 years, and have made some progress, but I still feel/hope that there’s some silver arrow out there that I haven’t stumbled upon. (as it stands I’ve erred too strongly on the strength training side, and am just now starting to phase some meaningful cardio into the mix as recent research leads me to believe that increase in mitochondrial function/quantity is the only way to increase energy, and that apparently is best done with cardio)
No talk of old guys around here either . There’s a guy that’s 80 at one the local tracks that’s still blasting around on his Leopard, so I figure I have at least a couple plus decades before being considered old, lol.
Meh no progress. Doc was uninclined to go that route. Seems like there’s a bunch of folks pushing trt online but docs seem very cautious. I don’t want to risk cancers or whatever so I’ll listen.
Hi Chris, no worries there. I’m definitely not giving up strength training completely, just shifting the amount of it initially so that I can add the cardio. I have too much time in and enjoy the benefits too much from my strength stuff to give it up.
