I have been trying o tune this carby as the engine smokes a lot and ir just does not sound as good as the other karts in the track. Got to install EGT snd CHT sensors last week for the first time.
The spark plug turns black and wet.
The last set up on the day I put the needles at 30min and 150min.
We got 818 @ 13359 and 603 @ 4985rpm.
Your RPMs are very low, and lap times are inconsistent. You will not be able to adjust out those temps with the carb. Consider adding more teeth for now. I don’t know your track but 16mph is incredibly low for cornering. The driver is still learning, so I would suggest leaving the carb alone and the setup neutral.
Higher cornering speed = more low RPM = more high end RPM = more temp. Be patient.
A common starting point is 30 & 90. I think you are way over at 150. Going all the way down to 24, may have been too lean and still causing it to read cold.
I would try 30 & 90, adjusting just 2 or 3 minutes at time. Your RPM’s are also low, which is causing it to read cold. 4985 is WAY low on RPM on the bottom IMO. Adjust gearing to bring up the bottom number, try the needles and see what you get. Good luck!
Yes, he is definitely slow. Especially around the corners. He did improve. From 1m14s to 52s.
The sprocket is definitely on the small size. He is running 10/80. I’m looking to bump it up to 82. Ordered a few…hope to get them in time for this week.
The plug will always be oily until you really start wringing it out. Under 5k RPM he isn’t even into the clutch yet, so there is no load on the engine on those slow corners, which is making it even more loaded up with fuel. No amount of carb adjustment will dial in the mix until he starts driving a bit faster. Going up on the rear gear will help a bit but not a ton. Set the carb to wherever your builder (or the others in this topic) recommend and just let the kid pound laps.
