One of my favorites…
You must be cheating because I’m cheating and you’re beating me!
“Tis better to have led and spun than never to have led at all.”
Ted Prappas - said this to me after spinning out of the lead of the Russel North American FF Festival in 1982… he was ribbing me for finishing 2nd but never leading.
Ted went on to have a pretty good career; F Atlantic champion, 2nd in the ARS championship (aka Indy lights), and 26 races in CART, with a 6th at Long Beach being his best finish.
Also,
Oversteer is when the passenger is scared.
Understeer is when the driver is scared.
I like that. Understeer is indeed a helpless feeling. Plowing into things has its unique vibe.
me staring at the tire wall im floating helplessly towards at 60 mph
“If lightning strikes while you’re in the car it’s your fault.”, Doc Bundy
To finish first, you must first finish.
Kind of opposite of yours though

“I’m not here to make friends. I brought my friends with me.” -Troy Gilges, professional Demolition Derby Car driver
Yes, I quoted a demo derby driver to reflect my racing attitude.
Two more laps I would’ve had you
Going into turn 1 on the first lap two/three/ four wide is the context:
“You can’t win the race in the first lap, but you can definately lose the race in the first lap."
When my Son was giving me some driver coaching:
Randy: what are you doing in this corner
Me: slight burp of throttle
Randy: nope, that corners wide open
Me: I can’t do that
Randy: if you want to be fast you will
Damn kid went full circle on me. Made me proud and stepped on my nuts all at the same time.
No, he didn’t slam into you, he didn’t bump you, he didn’t nudge you. He rubbed you, and rubbing, son, is racing.
Robert Duvall as Harry on movie days of thunder.
Doc is a pretty cool guy. These days he is racing vintage F1
I saw this a Greg Wright’s signature I think…
“When in doubt, gas it. It might not help, but it will end the suspense”
Son finishes 6th… Dad says, there were 5 world class drivers also competing.
Finishes 20th…
“That was a 25th place kart, but through sheer skill and determination I DRAGGED that thing up to 20th.”
I love that! I dragged my kart to last many times
Just remembered my all time favorite.
“You know what happens when you race with the squirrels? You get your nuts busted.”
“They don’t pay me enough to ride this thing” - Kenny Roberts
“They say that Freddie gets this part, and Freddie gets that, but I’ve watched Freddie and what he gets is ON THE GAS” - Kevin Cameron
“You’ve got nine karts to pass, and you’ve got twelve laps to pass them, so just don’t have any below-average laps” - Willy Musgrave. (I then crashed out on lap 3 overtaking the 5th place kart)
