i went from a intrepid with 25mm/50mm to the am29 with 17mm/40mm and i found the intrepid had a way narrower tuning window than the birel, most of it is just in the kart as a whole instead of the individual components
This was my progression at well. 17/40 was stock but with spindle front rims I couldn’t get the track width wide enough to I installed 25mm front with 40mm rear. Now I’ve installed a 50mm rear axle.
Now I don’t know it it is me or the kart, but here is my short kart experienced so far.
1st outing 17/40. The kart felt like it was oversteering mid corner. I was slow in laptime
2nd outing 17/40. The kart felt like I was going to fly off onto the weeds on the outside of corners.
3rd outing 25/40. Went okay but slow laptimes.
4th outing 25/50. Best so far. Not that far off the pace and I had no issues throwing the kart into, through corners. In fact through one corner I was bouncing into the corner and never felt out of control.
Now maybe it was the few other minor changes. Rear track width, Ackerman angle via moving the tie rods into the middle hole of the three available. It was on the furthest outer hole. And I added 2.5 kg lead just in front of the gas tank.
The best day’s experience!
I have an opposite experience with my Compkart 4R, a 17/50 setup. It helps with front end and I personally feel like I can any setup out of it.
