11kg is about half a second at our track here in 206.
I usually run 3-4 kg over with no detriment, tho, so I’m not sure where the magic time drop starts.

Honestly, especially when we’re talking about rentals 5 or even 10 kg is pretty much inconsequential. There’s generally such a disparity between the karts themselves in terms not only of power but also predictability in handling that such a weight difference doesn’t hinder a driver nearly as much as the disparity in performance.
For example last week I took part in a company event which our pilots ran, I was invited to join them as they all know I’m keen. Basically it was me vs 28 pilots. No ballast, 97kg me was a tad concerned.
Time attack format, two ‘quali’ heats where the top 5 times from each heat went into a final.
For my heat I had a dog of a kart. Barely scraped in the top 5 at 1:21.8. I later found out the kart I had was the worst one in the fleet.
Final - I happened to get the polar opposite best one in the fleet and romped away from everyone, running 1:16.5s. More than 5 seconds difference per 1.2km lap.
My point is, in rentals at least, it’s not your weight that determines how competitive you are. Generally speaking it’s the kart itself.
I’ve heard mixed opinion’s, but all point to being on the pace once the fluff is dropped.
the more seat time he gets he’ll definitely be able to outweigh those odds
goes for both me and my friend pray for a good kart weight or not , however kartdrome is bringing in a new fleet of Rt10’s its either going for rentals or Sws my best bet is fresh Rt10’s to sws and old Rx8 into rentals now
General rule is that +20kg = 1 second over 1km.
Sad but true. Having been somewhat involved with the league formation at GRX, I can attest to the why. Most facilities do not have a special fleet for their racing leagues (OKC speedy karts being the only exception I can think of).
This means that the karts you race are also the karts that the general public uses in the rental sessions and boy, do they murder the poor things. Never underestimate the capacity of man (or women) of any age to be absolute hooligans or imbeciles when given a track and a motor vehicle.
I was eyeballing our chassis the other day before the league and three of 12 had cracked tubing on the front end, and one was pushed in so badly the left front wheel was rubbing and couldn’t make a left turn past 5 degrees.
This is why I want a kart club of some sort, where you have to buy in and are held accountable for the maintenance of the vehicles, financially.
