I’m pretty comfortable with those fees - it’s part of our business model. We probably have 30-40 at the moment in storage and more than half rely on us totally for basic prep and post cleanup before we put them on the rack or on a vertical. Those 15-20 people aren’t just paying for service, they are paying the track practice passes and race entries. They would not own karts or be participating all season long without that help.
A shop can handle that better than a club probably but I’d bet there is a way to structure it so certain days people could get that support from club members with the money going to the club account.
I’m all for Keith getting a shipping container and we use stackers. Doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s not like e-town will be less elegant with a big metal box tucked away behind the dragstrip.
With the side door Conex boxes you could build some cheap shelves and store a dozen easily. Or just roll the stackers in. Would be paid for in about 6 months. And they may actually improve the look of E-town based on the most recent pics I’ve seen…. Lol
In my narrow view our local track had zero LO206, all 2cycle. The next closest track strangely is about 90% 4 cycle with a mix of animal and LO206. Last season I set up a kart with a Lo206 and got a few others to do the same. These were dads whose sons raced in another class but they wanted to try racing. This was ideal as there is very little to do vs a 2cycle. I anticipate more participation this coming season. I have always run 100cc 2 stroke so it was a learning curve and yes they are slower but slower doesn’t mean easy. However, it is easier on the body. I believe the interest in this class will continue as long as Briggs or cheaters don’t screw it up.
If the World Formula motors proposed/in use for karting is the same World Formula that is used to good effect in Quarter Midgets, there is an existing ruleset for the motors and the potential to allow those of us who are used to four stroke motors to run in a faster class without trying to figure out the black magic that is two stroke tuning (at least to those of us who don’t run them… ) There is also the pool of sealed motors that are toward the end of their useful life as a sealed motor that can be converted to WF, potentially helping control costs. From our time in Quarter Midgets, the WF seems to be a reliable package.
As a newly retired motocross racer, I’m here just because of the 206. I had friends that went on to race shifter karts and I saw them hemorrhage cash at alarming rates that made motocross look cheap! Since my body is broken down from years of racing mx, I can’t handle the forces that a 2-stroke kart puts on your body either. A friend of mine recently purchased a 206, and I was like “that’s it!”. Low cost, low maintenance, and super fun!
So far electric packages cost more than most 2 stroke packages. A bolt on kit for a kart was around 6-7k last I checked, also charging feels like an unresolved issue as my track has no outlets and everything is run off of generators. Unless everybody comes with multiple batteries but that’s going to be absurdly expensive.
