Getting started in 206 senior class racing (OVKA)

Seems like a good deal to me. Pre-pandemic pricing on a used margay I bought was considerably more than 3k and it didn’t come with all those goodies.

The kart looks clean and the bodywork is recent so I’m guessing you did get a good deal. Others here with more intimate knowledge of what things should cost may have other opinions tho.

Stupid good deal - congrats!

Good deal, great kart and engine.

I’d just go through and double check to make sure everything is tight and secure, and then you should be ready for some open practice out at G&J once you have all your safety equipment, most of which should be pretty easy to pick up at the swap meet

You’ll also have to figure out about how much lead weight you’re going to need to make weight, which should be fairly easy to do even without scales, based on how much you weigh and the collective knowledge here of how much other people run.

I think I should be good, the kart was running in the master’s class so around 395 pounds including the driver and I’m going to be running senior. I got some lead weights with it Aswell, so if I need to add some more, I would be able to do that.

If I want to weigh me and the kart how would I do that? Would I just buy 4 scales and put one on each tire?

Also, how tight of room should I have in the seat? I feel like its a bit to big for me (could fit around 3 fingers in between me and the seat)

The “old school” method of weighing is 4 bathroom scales, yeah. There’s a big scale at the racetrack you can use on race days, though you’d want to make sure to get close enough beforehand.

It’s good that you have weights, though it all comes down to how much you’ll personally weigh with all your gear on. Most masters drivers only have 10-15 lbs of weight on (if any at all) even at the 390 lb minimum while many kids in sportsman/Jr classes routinely have 40-50 lbs on the kart to make weight.

How much do you personally generally weigh? We can get you close based on that, and if you need to borrow 5-10 extra pounds on race day we can find you that. (We wouldn’t want to try and scrounge up 50 lbs on a race day)

“Most Masters drivers have only 10-15 lbs on…” I’m at 36 lbs and half a tank of gas. I have to add more weight as the season goes on as I lose weight from all the racing.

I was up to 55lbs in x30 masters. But I am relatively skinny for an older guy. That kart was a bitch to lift.
Thank god for teenagers being around.

That’s part of why I keep my twentysomething son around…

You gonna want to be more snug. However, you will want to try with a rib protector on when you do sit in some different ones.
