Doug was pretty proud of the tech inspectors: “We did not miss anything”. Wonder how he feels now…

Wow wow wow. BIG moves. The Captain had to do something to quell the rage and he made some big moves here by sacking those guys.

As I said on FB. This 500 has been wild and the green flag hasn’t even dropped yet.

Room for more at Furrari

If I were Andretti I would definitely be calling those guys!

Some high dollar consultants just became available for karting

Interesting video on drivers in all similar cars with similar engines. Some discussions never change…

What a race!

Well done Alex!

Just think if Marcus Ericsson had won. This is nuts.

I get that it looks a bit bad, but this IS the biggest motorsport event in the world, you have to imagine that most teams are trying to play in the grey areas. It happens in every form of motorsport. I don’t get why people are all doom-and-gloom, other than to get clicks and views for content on what many think was a pretty boring 500. No shade at David specifically here.

The Penske one was especially sour-tasting because of the conflicts of interest with Roger owning the series.

Had someone been bounced from the win, that would be pretty huge. But no one did.

The optics are just bad. Penske, who of course owns IMS and Indycar gets penalized pre-race where the drivers can recover. These, post-race when they can’t. There should have been ample time to catch this earlier, but they weren’t. They shouldn’t have cheated, but the penalties here are much harsher because of when it happened.

There are a few thousand people that the penalties truly impact their perception. The average fan or casual spectator it really doesn’t impact their enjoyment or participation.

They throw penalty flags all day in football, send people to the box in hockey and hand out yellow cards in soccer like candy. Rules should be followed and when they aren’t, officials make calls. It’s just part of sport to the regular person - only us diehards take it to heart.

I think the main issue is that INDYCAR needs to look at their tech procedures a bit if all this stuff is getting through tech.

That’s different because there isn’t deception involved with regard to fouls etc…

When there’s deception, as there might be with something like steroid use, then it’s a very different beast. Humans react to deception more to sporting fouls. Especially if the athlete has a public persona.

That’s not to say IndyCar is being harmed here however because its relative position in the sporting landscape means it’s very much in the all publicity is good publicity zone.

Will Power trying some bump moves out…

The video of him watching the replay was pretty darn funny. Worked out OK for Woody in the end so no harm, no foul I guess… lol

I still will never understand how we got from Belle Isle to here… what a hot mess of a track. But kinda fun.

This track is absolute trash. I don’t understand why they keep coming back. It’s so bumpy and so narrow.

Sounds good to me

So that may have been a bit of a hot mess but it was pretty fun - elbows out short track racing on a street course.

Kinda loved a lot of storylines - Foyt looking absolutely legit on pace with Malukus and strategy with Ferrucci. Ferrucci going back and taking P2 off Power was badass.

Great run by Kyffin Simpson - by far the most impressive drive of his short career.

Kyle Kirkwood looked like a guy that did 100,000 laps at Ocala - have to give credit to Jorge still for his success - and was also a shoe at SuperNats with the barriers.

Malukus in to Palou ruined two good races for the drivers but it did help bring the Championship back to an almost interesting level.

Gnarly failure for Foster - that could have been worse, but not by much.

I want to hate the venue/layout but that was a pretty good race to watch.
