Increase caster doesn’t really change wheelbase since you are tilting the kingpin on it’s center axis. Gerard is referring to when you run neutral caster (both pills facing the same direction), it actually moves the whole spindle forward or backward without tilting it.
I haven’t actually tested changing the wheelbase like this, but it is only changing the wheelbase a couple mm so I wouldn’t think it would make a huge difference. But I know on the old ART kart which had adjustable wheelbase on the rear cassettes, just 10mm made a pretty big difference in how the kart handled. Maybe @GerardVanGaalen has some opinion on it as well.
Do you know where I can find these eccentrics? I only have a “4” on the top of my Covert 4r and would like more adjustability. I can’t seem to find them on the net.
These are interchangeable with BirelArt eccentrics, which are available in 0.5* and 1.5*. The CompKart #4 insert is a 1.8*. You’ll just want to confirm your kingpin diameter before buying anything, as there are both 8mm and 10mm options out there.
I may have a handful. Confirm if those are for 8 or 10mm kingpin. Although the ball inserts are interchangeable - just need a small pick to pull the spring retainer out.
