Sim Racing Megatopic

There is the calibration I use in iRacing where you press it as hard as you’d like to set the 100% braking threshold. Only shows the load cell’s raw output so I’m not exactly sure what the force is. I’ll just have to bump up the 100% a bit more. Thanks for the feedback.

The one think that drives me nuts in iracing is how long it takes to get going. We don’t need two parade laps of a giant track. Wave that flag and let’s race!!!

That being said they are going for realism.

Agreed. This class is only one parade lap, but it could honestly start a couple corners before the starting line.

I’ve already had a couple people swerve into me or rear end me on the parade lap. Really love getting penalty points before turning a lap.

I had one jackass literally hit the wall 10 yards before start at New Hampshire.

He then obviously spun before he crossed starting line and everyone that was behind him got black flag since we “passed him before start”.

I’m not really a fan so far of iRacing’s penalty system with the incidence points and how it handles “cutting” the track. Pretty easy to PIT maneuver someone take basically no penalty while ruining the other guys race.

It can get maddening since they have to penalize without “eyes on”. Kind of like what Spencer’s experienced in his race when penalized for something he didn’t do.

And, you feel like a putz when putting in a protest over a game.

That helped  Increase the 100% force a good bit and really helped. Didn’t see the ABS lights nearly as much and way better on getting the car slowed down under control.

Hydration: We’re doing it wrong, apparently.

TLDR:

Milk is more hydrating than water

The other factor affecting how well a beverage hydrates relates to a drink’s nutrient composition. For example, milk was found to be even more hydrating than plain water because it contains the sugar lactose, some protein and some fat, all of which help to slow the emptying of fluid from the stomach and keep hydration happening over a longer period.

So the whole Indy 500 Milk chugging thing now makes sense

Gosh those GT cars have a loose back end. Seems real easy to scritch under accel on corner exit.

In that tight chicane you were trying to figure out, the dude ahead of you was going to the right edge to set up for 2nd apex. No idea if he right or wrong but you were more middle track.

Nice race. Good effort.

So far it’s may favorite car/class. Of all things I’m really struggling with the Miata, GR86, and beginner formula cars.

The GR86 especially just does some weird stuff that defies logic and physics to me. It is unreasonably unstable on entry, coming off the brakes, and it just randomly flipped on me mid corner like it bugged out.

I’ve been staying out of the Miata races as it’s just too much carnage and I’m really working hard to get my safety and irating up.

Posted a video of the P3 race. Kinda boring after lap 2 or 3 as the top couple guys crashed, but I was fighting for my life to keep the guy in P4 behind me.

Looks like good racing that never lets up. It doesn’t look “fast” but it feels like its really busy and that theres more power than grip.

I think the FOV from recording on one monitor doesn’t translate the sense of speed as well as being surround by the triple monitors. I noticed that when playing back the video.

There is just enough aero that you can toss it into high speed corners, but the car still has a good bit of mechanical grip for the lower speed stuff.

I swear by a big bottle of LiquidIV for at track hydration.

I too have enjoyed this fine product

I’ll add this to the list of brands to reach out to for site sponsors

Gear and stuff is fun. Can’t we get paid or something? Like if traffic actually buys anything?

I got back in rig. It was fun, actually.

I think I will try to sim 1/2 hr to 1 hr daily, again. It was productive getting back in rig and I found some new learnings since I had given it a rest. Racing w/ Nick this Sunday.

  • Southern Iran registered a heat index value — the apparent “feels like” temperature to the human body — of 152 degrees Fahrenheit on Sunday. Heat indexes of 160 are widely considered the upper threshold of what humans can endure.

Tell me about your neck of the world. Are you feeling similar as Iran?

Indoor karting sounds good right about now.

Our Endurance race this weekend was not particularly hot but me and the lads all noticed the signs of heat stroke. Which is odd considering the day was dominated by rain.

"Researchers at Pennsylvania State University who study the effects of heat and humidity on the human body have found that even young, healthy people begin to overheat in conditions starting at about 100 degrees and 60 percent humidity, or, in another heat-index configuration, 88 degrees and 100 percent humidity.

Prolonged exposure to such conditions, they said, could cause life-threatening heat stroke.

It was not clear whether the weather data was taken on the airport’s tarmac, which could have affected the readings. Tarmacs, which are generally paved with asphalt, are notorious for being significantly hotter than other areas,"

The enduro was 100% humidity and mid to high 80,s coincidentally. Was not expecting heat stress migraines.

Hey Dom

Yeah it’s often like that especially this time of year when the humidity is high. Right now it’s 06:43 am, 31 (88) deg but 85% humidity with a ‘feels like’ 48 (118). Later it will nudge 50, with humidity it can easily get to a feels like of 60 or 70.

Karting in that is brutal, it was under such conditions I over hydrated (I think we discussed over hydration a couple of years back right? It’s a thing 100%) not only that the kart slides all over the place because the track gets slippery, easy to lose 4-5 seconds on your normal lap time in less humid conditions

Heat stroke generally isn’t a thing here, when you live and work in such conditions it’s true your body gets acclimatized. But yeah push yourself in it without replacing fluid AND electrolyte you can definitely suffer

Edit: Anybody reading this who didn’t see our discussion about over hydrating, essentially your body needs minerals and fluid. If you’re in a situation whereby you’re losing lots of fluid to sweat and drink lots and lots of water, you basically dilute those essential minerals by sweating them straight out with the water faster than your body can put them back. You need to make sure you’re replacing minerals and fluid, by adding electrolytes. After my episode I always drink at least half half Pocari and water if I’m doing track sessions in the heat. No issues whatsoever since I started doing that.
