It appears Gopro is releasing actual editing software to subscribers (which I am).
This makes subscribing more attractive. Assuming it’s good. The other thing that makes subscribing attractive is the cloud storage. There’s a way to use it for more than just Gopro footage and it’s unlimited.
I am really making what feels like progress on the AMP-C sub 18 push.
I’ve done enough laps now that I am able to run sub 9 s3 often and am feeling like I “get it” a lot more clearly.
Still no fast lap but a lot of .1-.2 over and over, with the occasional .0x. The consistency is way, way up.
It does seem that taking the time off did allow me to refocus. I feel like I didn’t lose anything and probably gained something from the break.
It does seem that running as many laps as possible will get you faster and faster (or, at least, more and more consistent).
Here’s a .0x from last night. You can see how S2 gets slower the faster you are in S1.
Here I land a .885 S1 which means I run a slightly slower than ideal s2. It seems that when you get lower than .9s for s1, you lose time by being wide midcorner 2-3 complex. I finish with a V fast sub 9 s3.
For comparison, look at this lap with faster s2 slower s1. The difference lies in the space between the two apexes of t2-3. Too fast into 2 makes you go right (wide) instead of a straight line between the two. You sorta bleed right, slightly.
So, basically, all I need is to do the same lap as the two above but nail s2 with a 5.05 or better,
So my opponent, Tazzy, logged in and played which means his Ghost has changed. Because of a bug, instead of running against his 17.999 ghost, I am racing his 18.086 lap.
It was a productive session because from the get go, I was fast and on his butt. I was somewhat baffled by everything seeming like it was a tenth off, however, based upon the months of racing Tazzy’s faster ghost. Then, I “won” which confused me, and then I realized what was going on, that the ghost had changed.
In any case, we once again have all sorts of odd behavior such as back to back 18.115’s, which you’ll have to take my word for. More importantly, though is the fact that I ran a fast lap to beat Tazzy’s slower ghost, then I did the exact same laptime again a few laps later. so, I did my fastest laptime twice in one night.
Lap 1 (preview borked, video fine)
3.885 (a little too fast, maybe)
5.177 (a little too slow because of S1)
9.019 (a little too slow)
Lap 2
3.955 (spot on)
5.136 (.05 or better is where we need)
8.989 (spot on)
It is odd how just a few hundredths of a second make such a huge difference in racing, how such tiny things matter in terms of thousandths lost or gained.
This was a fun race. I made some mistakes and then clawed my way back. The Ferrari GT3 seems like too much of a car for Oulton Park. I’ve run a couple of races now, and the number of people that have sent it off-track is nuts.
Dom here is what I mean with the chopped-up view. While it would look great played back on triple monitors, it would look terrible for watching on youtube.
Yea, pretty much middle monitor or figure out a way to come back and record the replay without the stitching going on.
It’s amazing what a short break and coming back does. Just ran another race and absolutely crushed it. My best lap of 1:33.5 got deleted for brushing one of the tires in a chicane. It’s like I was driving a different car and track.
Yea, I went from Rookie to earning the C license in around 4 weeks. B shouldn’t take long just need to figure out what series I wanna race in. LMP3 is looking interesting as I wanna run the Dallara P217 since I helped work on the Cadillac version of the car back in 2017 when I still worked there.
When I was doing USF, oe of the things that amused me to pay attention to were the standings. IIRC I started racing in DIV 7 but ended up in div 3 the second season.
The licensing is annoying gatekeeping, imho. I think I was doing A or something, and it was just so painful trying to unravel what I could do to try to advance. There didn’t seem to be a series to do, that didn’t have some sort of qualification or exclusion. I was probably being dumb about it, however.
iRacing is built on gatekeeping the noobs and crashers in the bottom tier championships. Otherwise you get street stock rookies trying to race LMP and causing absolute havoc.
Yea, I don’t mind it. If you are decent it’s not hard to jump ranks quickly. It has been a bit annoying being stuck running short sprint races. 10laps or 15min is just too short for most races when you think of the time commitment for getting logged on and racing in iRacing.
It’s really tough and didn’t help that I maybe turned 20 laps in total before attempting the race. I did a race in the Miata there so I figured I would know the ins and outs of the track. Wrong! With the extra power and speed small bumps or crests in the Miata was a big deal in the Ferrari.
With the gatekeeping, the requisite havoc is provided by ‘qualified’ drivers who send it (from 2-3 car-lengths back) at a gap that is 1/2 to 1/4 car width wide, and then bitch at the guy(s) they hit for “turning down on me”.
Every Rookie Miata race I’ve run so far. Even starting on pole I’m so cautious on the first lap or so waiting for someone to just absolutely send it until you can get some breathing room. There is no safe space in the Rookie races.
