Sim Racing Megatopic

Good lord. Sub 10 1/4 mile on a 150cc engine that looks like it could be a kart engine. These bikes appear bespoke and are stupidly beautiful little machines of madness.

Warren, we should race these.

Well, Warren? Wanna go to the nearest track in style?

That looks like fun, and appropriate for me too because I live next to a lake.
As for the bike, straight line is not my thing.

It truly isn’t mine either. I did find the bikes themselves to be sort of works of art.

I love this piece of bike art, or maybe it’s a puzzle. (Mick Doohan’s NSR 500)

Oooh. That is cool. And would look nice as a chandelier in my foyer.

Hey Warren,
I went and did some sim after a month off. Lost no pace. Sim actually feels better, now, oddly. Just a quick observation. Also, feels less pressured.

I’m not surprised at all. Actually I think I said that might happen; once you’ve got the ball rolling, and you think like a racer, even when you’re not actively driving/simming, you continuously learn (or at least reinforce what you know) below the surface.

Also, I think this ability to switch ‘it’ off and then back on without losing a step is a symptom of driving having become who you are, rather than something you do.

But, as always, I could be full of :poop:

I’ll be honest, the sensitivity at the limit increased. Was much more aware of little things related to managing grip, it’s like they were clearer. An odd thing. I guess the time off allows me to see/hear the info provided anew. I called it at 10:45 instead of doing my usual. Perhaps that’s the way to go.

Yup. That seems accurate. I was reflecting on this a bit and I think that’s maybe why the line between sim/irl is so blurred for me now. I can’t tell the difference in how I drive the two since I don’t consciously make any effort to transition. It just is.

I think I am gonna try to abuse the kerbs at amp in Nov in a practice session and see if sim lines will put me upside down and on fire. (Looking at you final turn nose apex). Geronimo!!! (Boom, crash, ouch).

OK, So…

Need.

Also, it occurs to me that Supercharged Electric League racing is basically KartKraft.

Convince me I’m wrong.

Drive thru the smoke Cole!

Pretty damn overpriced imo, You can get much better bases for that price. You will aslo meed qr 2 wheelside. shipping it rounds up to 800 euro. You can get a simagic alpha with 15nm or a used simucube pro 2

A hot take indeed. @tankyx do you concur?

Looking for input and ideas. I have very limited experience with sim racing but I can see that the experience is beneficial and fun. The KartKraft program intrigues me, so I am looking for input on what I need and how I can do this on a tight budget and would consider used stuff if I know what to look for. Help me out.

Hmm. Well these days the entry point is the CSL DD at 5nm with a set of pedals, preferably loadcell.

Csl pedals v2:

$299

Or

Csl loadcell:

$199

5nm base:
$199 when purchased with wheel or pedals

You can then buy a power supply from fanatec to make it 8nm ($149) or Google it and buy knockoff.

Wheel:
$199

So, 600-700 to get started fanatec new 5nm w/loadcell.

From here you need a rig. You could use a table clamp but there are also stands/rigs.

Inexpensive portable ones are playseat challenge or next level racing GT lite. Both in the 250 range.

You’ll need a Pc with 16mb ram, a relatively recent cpu and a decent video card, 2060 or better. For vr, I use a 3060ti and it’s fine but not super powerful.

If you play on screens you will need to choose between ultra wide or triples eventually. I would imagine you’d want a 3070 or better for triples. But, a low end card will play, too, within reason.

Iracing will be more useful/fun than KK. Only buy KK if it’s on sale for 10-15 bucks. It’s terrific as a sim but it has nothing to do other than TT.

Warren,
I think this might do the trick for non-race days. Let’s go foil surfing in our downtime. Pure carving.

No, it is reasonnably priced compared to Simagic or Moza

Dom, I hope you know the word thot has a very different connotation with the younger crowd than what you’re using it as, and it’s always a little jarring for me to see you use it in this context

advertised as “Consistent torque”. is this an issues with similar bases like simcube, simagic. or is this a shot at lower end like thrustmaster/logitech?
