Sim Racing Megatopic

Aha. So I maybe wasn’t so crazy with the diff! I bet it’s a great experience being a part of this.

I have been having to retorque consistently as it disconnects regularly every couple uses from pulling. Its not a terrible nuisance and very easy to repair if it disconnects.

I found this amusing. Please don’t judge me too harshly. Courtesy Pussymaster2 (I guess 1 was taken).

Looks to me like he just lost traction and lost it.

But I put throwing a helmet firmly into dick category. Maybe they should of got a better driver.

Ran a Formula Vee race last night at Tsukuba. I thought I liked the car last time I drove it but I was a disaster in this race. Did a great job tanking my SR and dropping my iR.

Then jumped in a couple MX-5 races at Okayama which I enjoyed. Got punted out of 5th in the one, but didn’t lose much time and the punter ended up wrecking himself later. Had a nice race-long fight from 2nd to 4th in the other race.

I’m so rusty that I am going through the pains of my iR getting dropped as I get back into a groove. If I had more spare time I would do more practice to get on pace quicker but I just don’t have that luxury. I’ve gone from 2k iRating to about 1700 now.

Well crap. I fear I’m gonna be in the same boat. I’ve been eyeballing the iracing icon but putting off jumping back in. Mostly scared of the inevitable n00biness that will occur as I re-learn the car and general iracing shenanigans. I have no desire to kill my irating but it will happen.

I wish they had license per car sometimes. I find myself avoiding new experiences that can affect ir/sr.

Maybe trying rallycross for yuks.

I’m planning on making my car/series change during week 13. Not that IR matters so much in the series I’m running, as my car typically has one split, but I do like regularly racing the same people and dropping down because I raced something else wouldn’t be fun.

There’s a discussion on the iracing forums right now about per car IR and the issues it has and would cause.

It is annoying to feel sort of locked in to a single car to avoid tanking your rating as you learn a new car, but I view it the same as a new track. Put the time in, spend a couple bucks if you have to get a good setup, and practice and you should be able to get onto a decent pace within an hour or so.

It does kill some of the spontaneity of playing with friends though. Some of my buddies are open wheel guys and I’m more of a GT guy, so if we are both on and want to hop into a session or race together, one of us is going to be a turd because we don’t know the car.

Well did a TT session and a ghost race before jumping back in. Could not resist as its an oval and I love oval racing the USF. Dunno why.

It went surpsingly well. I was on pace basically within 1/2 hr. I qualified 10th in spilt 2 of 4 and got 7th. Managed to drive intelligently and let a bunch of other guys do some crashing. :grinning:

Iracing VR is really nice looking, too.

Follow what this thread says and load the two files in your iracing folder, and change the options as the thread says. I can now run with two pass trees at Hungaroring and mt Washington. I had to turn a bunch of stuff down at both tracks to maintain 90fps and now my R and G meters are cut in half. Also, enable reflex in iracing graphics settings if you haven’t, that will help if there is ever a latency issue.

I will try that. I saw that thread also.the guy who made the vr optimization guide on Iracing forums piped up:

“It will help you hit a higher FPS if you cant already hit the refresh rate of your headset. But it wont solve the 3000 series / steamvr bug that drops half of the frames”

Finally got around to testing out the different VR settings and SteamVR and OcculusVR.
Something is really, really wrong here. I have over 3000 hours in VR in all types of games such as Project Cars, Iracing, The Forest, Subnautica, VrChat with 60+ avatars with extremely bad optimization (300k polys each), microsoft flight sim etc.

SteamVR mode is really as bad as people have made it out as, I was just expecting minor poor performance and people who are new to VR who will get motion sickness or otherwise be put off from it, but it was nearly unplayable on default settings.

Oculus mode I had alot more luck with, but that mode seems to really limit the graphics quality. It was playable but looked quite poor.

I have heard a bit about poor performance with VR Games made with Unreal lately, and a bit of googling does show some complaints. I don’t think its due to KartKraft’s dev team or any poor optimization on there end."

I have a playable experience in vr, however. I am running mainly lower settings.

I did a couple races in iRacing last night and what a difference, VR-wise. Iracing is really well put together and the graphics are pretty great. It all works.

Ok so what next folks? I kind of am sick of chasing ghosts and doing hot laps. Maybe a low-key iRacing push? Try to see if I can break through 2K and go higher?

I’m not feeling massively inspired. Need a challenge or an actual kart race.

Run GT4 in iRacing so we can cross paths sometime.

But but I’m 52. I thought you had to be under 25 to race GT cars. :sunglasses: (in iracing).

Something tells me I’d be in a low split. Or a split based upon my USF history which would make me better than I actually am.

You’ve got it all backwards, you’re running USF2000, the agreed upon series for 15 year olds with trust funds!

Come race GT with all the old guys who can’t modulate brakes anymore due to scar tissue and lack of cartilage in their knees.

Oh broken knees is required? I’m old and I’m in!

Really nice clean racing in split 2/4 last night in USF btw. Relatively few crashes and I managed to not dent anything.

Maybe there is a crash fest ladder

This the game in question?

Porsche Cup is my favorite thing in the whole sim, GT4 is close second.

I’ve found that with both Porsche Cup and the GT3 series having a fixed setup options now takes alot of the guess work out of prepping for something new, you jump in and try to adapt to the car and see how quick you can go, not monkeying around with setup all the time wondering if that’s an issue.
