Superkart appreciation/celebration topic

Sorry just saw this. I was coaching for a privateer up there in Formula Ford. In my late 20s / early 30s I was pretty big into coaching while trying to make a career out of it. I coached a few famous people and former stunt guys before getting pulled into film and television. Was on the verge to crack 6 figures traveling nation wide, but had a lot of trouble being on the road – I hate traveling all the time for jobs.

Drove everything from custom Miatas making 400 + whp to supercars, a few formula guys and some karting. I got out of it after some rather close calls and the money just wasn’t worth it for the risk. Never felt as comfortable coaching karts because I’m not a master at setting them up.

At the peak of my foray into the business I made it into movies like Ford Ferrari – which I earned my way into by street racing and beating one of the top drivers from the Fast and The Furious crew – and had an opportunity to do stunts and travel more. John Bernthal was incredibly nice and I think if I had been in a different frame of mind I could have probably found more work from him with driving, but whatever. I chatted with Matt Damon very briefly. He was very nice but very focused. Christian Bale was like a person from another planet.

What an actor. Glad to hear he’s nuts. That’s a good sign.

LOL, I could respond to that about a thousand ways. And oddly enough, I would say superkarts and Christian Bale actually have something in common.

Outliers who shape our world are often very weird. It does seem brilliance in one area comes at a cost in others. A super kart is very similar to Christian Bale: hard to understand, finnicky, knife edge, do one thing wrong and it might chew your face off, but when everything is working perfectly and you’re dialed in there’s probably very few experiences that can match it.

It was an experience I can say that much and it has colored my world in a different way after. I’m the guy in the green jacket and white shirt running to the explosion in the warehouse scene.

This would be a good time to mention that one of the currently largest, if not the largest, annual turnout for superkarts in North America will be racing in the AKRA / Dart Kart Club Road Race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend.

Some onboards from a couple of 250 Superkart racers from a few years ago, first one is a twin cylinder, second vid is a single cylinder 250.
