Tools you swear by?

This times 1,000. I’m listing my Tyre Pryer set in the classifieds soon after buying this.

Investing in quality tools eliminates so many problems I kick myself for waiting so long.

  • Hex tools are all Bondhus with their coated finish. I have a set of Beta’s but they’re not as good.
  • Wright Wrenches (I use Gear Wrench 120t ratchet)
  • Wright sockets (on Billet Westling socket trays https://www.westlingusa.com)
  • Geared wrenches are SK
  • Wera laser etched screw drivers
  • Milwaukee cordless ratchet (the best money I’ve ever spent)

Wasn’t aware they even made racheting alan wrenches, now I need a set, lol.

I might be super late to the party on something this simple, but I bought these little squirt bottles and started filling them with the leftover fresh 4T 206 oil you get after doing several oil changes.

And then I use the 4T squirt bottle to lube up my chain and my bearings before each session. Works wonders.

Is that not just going to fling oil all over the kart and the track?

That’s a first for me, I’ve not heard of anyone using 4T on their chain and bearings.

That would be my concern… motor oil doesn’t seem like it would stick to a chain.

A clever thought though.

Park tools tri wrenches, the bigger one is 4, 5, 6mm, the smaller one is 2, 2.5, 3mm.

As a former bike mechanic, these are never far from my hand.

Haha those are all valid concerns. But it doesn’t take much to get the chain and bearings lubed up. It’s more of a controlled drizzle than anything. The spout at the top makes it easy to point the oil inside the bearing race and directly on the chain. I also do it while on the stand with the rear wheels spinning on their own so it gets worked in, and any excess gets flung off before I head out to the track.

I initially was using WD40, but that’s more like water. The 4T seems to last a little longer after each session too. Probably not as good as actual chain and bearing lube, but then again the 4T is “free”. After 2 oil changes (I change the oil after every race weekend), you’re left with only a few ounces of oil left in the bottle so rather than having a bunch of almost-empty 4T bottles, I started pouring the excess into the squirt bottles.

why not just buy reagular shain sprayor and bearing lube? Probobly bettter performance then 4 t oil? Maby like 5 euro pricier…

On this subject, the thing that drives me nuts is tire dressing flinging off tires after detail. Cmon, I just polished that panel. Open to brand suggestions.

No reason. I’m lazy and tend to forget about buying actual chain and bearing lube whenever I order kart parts online. I don’t have any physical kart shops located near me. The closest shop is a 3.5 hr drive so if I need something, I’m ordering online which means I’m paying for shipping and waiting 3-5 days

Never seem to have several partial bottles around unless I accidentally grab a new bottle. This system works fairly well, grab previously opened bottle, pour into measuring vessel until desired amount is in vessel, or bottle is empty. If not enough in measuring vessel, open new bottle, pour to appropriate mark, seal bottle and put on shelf for next time. Sure, it may add a step, but I get the amount I want into the engine. No pouring, looking at lines on bottle, pouring more, looking at lines on bottle, pouring more, realizing oh crap, I poured to much in, guess I’ll just run with it.

I race the LO206 4-stroke engine. A regular bottle of 206 specific 4T oil is 1 quart. The engine takes only 13-15 oz. So after two oil changes, I’m always left with roughly 2 oz left in the bottle.

So wouldn’t you use that 2 oz, and open another bottle to get the needed 11-13 oz?

I could, yes. Or i can fill a squirt bottle with some excess so i have some sort of lubrication thats better than wd40 without having to pay $15-20 everytime i need the good karting specific chain and bearing lube.

Im already giving the kart a good nut & bolt check before heading on the track anyways, so whats the hurt in using a little motor oil thats free?

I dont think anyone is arguing that its hurting anything. I think they are arguing that it is actually not helping anything. You are definitely not doing worse than WD40. But, I dont think you are actually “lubricating” anything.

Dont take my opinion, though. I never lube chain or bearings. I just run them all year and throw them away each winter…
