Nice!! Netjes gereden !!

Hi Dom, well for the starting incident i got a 5 second penalty so I actually finished 5th. At the end I was not very happy with my race, the beginning was really messy, It took way to long to overtake kart nr. 7. Lines and braking was a bit all over the place. I had to put some background music fromForza 6 over it, because the wind noise was very bad. Also the first pass at 10:47 was from my point of view messy and badly executed. Penalty was a bit harsh I think, just a racing incident.

Looking back a nice race to watch, lots to learn from.

I am planning to film every race I entered, but in Europe you are not allowed to mount on board camera’s on your kart during the race. Very strange rule, I am now in contact with the FIA, because this rule is for every international karting series in europe.

That rule has been added because the race directors and the other were fed up to have to deal with video footage when people were protesting

While I wait for my ribs to heal and I can go back behind the wheel I managed to get some drone footage from my son and a friend practicing their Lo206 at Kartplex (Oliver, BC Canada). This is their first season and have made an amazing progress so far. Still lots to learn but they are on the right track! Hope you guys enjoy.

And another one from last weekend when the guys were also practicing. So hard to stay back and just watch. It looks like they had a ton of fun.

First podium of the season out of 18 karts!! In the final it was announced that it would be choice tires, while we were on the grid, so there was a mad rush of everyone grabbing slicks. It split pretty evenly, and I stayed on wets. Definitely the right choice! Amazing aggressive and clean battle with @Racer_Rick12

Here’s another segment on karting from one of my favorite content creators on YouTube, savagegeese:

Dives more into the weeds of getting into the sport, costs, realities, etc. with Alan Bertagnoli at Autobahn Kart Club.

I made a long rambling comment on the video, trying to keep people from getting discouraged at some of the prices getting thrown around in the video, but otherwise I think stuff like this is great. I also linked KP in there

Savagegeese has almost 500k subs, so that’s great audience to expose the sport to.

I will have some video after next weekend. I have just had a shit year so far and finally setting in a rhythm for my first year regional racing

But i will finally remember to put my go pro on and get some feedback

100% agree, actually doing what we do unless you’re super human you need them. Water alone is not only insufficient but actually can make things worse - you can drink a ton of water but if you’re sweating a lot you sweat out the salt n other stuff your body needs, you need to put those back.

I mean yeah but there are 2 main problems. Semis are worth more or equal to finals and no position values. Thats about it.

Not much to see, its my first regional race a month ago. It 's me and the guy at the rear battling for last place, lol.

@IRQVET
1:20 are you lifting a bit here or is this falling back slightly a gearing difference? Generally your pace seems a bit faster but coming out of this corner you are sliding. Twice in a row. This allows him to gap a bit. If you get this corner together you will pass him. It looked to me like a slight lift as you approached braking zone. Maybe to give him space so you could concentrate on the turn.

I think in general it looks pretty smooth compared to last time. I’d prefer to see you place yourself on track a bit more consistently. For example, going down straight, you let the kart sorta drift to the middle of track. Then, as you approach braking point, you sorta swing kart over to the track edge at the last moment. Why not just ride straight down the edge of track? Less chance of messing up the prep for the turn.

You have moments where you lose speed on exit. According to our pal Ryan Norberg, if you are sliding mid corner, you need to slow down a touch more for entry. You might be overdriving the entry a bit. If it’s not that, which it might not be, you might be holding steering angle too long. Open up the turn at the end. Try looking forwards and unwind the hands based on what your eyes see ahead.

Ok the new guys should watch this. I think you do a really great job of demonstrating patience and using your brain to get around guys.

You aren’t afraid of letting off throttle, if it allows you to position yourself ideally. You let the kart roll when it makes sense to do so. Importantly, when you pick back up throttle is really nice and your timing is such that you appear to take a little bite out of their gap each time you get back to gas. Very pretty.

The exhaust sound is perfect for illustrating whe and how you are on/off throttle. It’s very clear.

The cool part for new guys would be how you pass. You dont ā€œdisturbā€ the guy ahead. There is no time lost battling against their defense. Because they don’t get a chance to defend. You let them run at full speed, unharassed, until the pass reveals itself.

5:20 pass 6

Now, you push!

8:42 pass 7

The rest is open track, I think.

Beautiful drive!

Thank you Dom!
Since Noah (my son) is not a member of this group yet, I’ll show him your response.

He’s quick! Nice racing!

The opening lap downhill bit seems fun on cold tires in the wet!

4:40 Blood in the water ahead? Let’s see where this goes…

Yup, you pull on him a bit on straight part and then follow it up with pulling a bit more under braking next corner or two. Gap is almost closed.

5:55 better braking and turn out you right on his bumper on exit. Just curious, why did you not jog left around him? There was another few seconds before the turn. At a minimum you could have put yourself between him and the apex by taking the inside. Instead, he feels your bump, knows you are there, and then makes sure to go claim the corner before you. The kart ahead of you isn’t your target, the open track ahead of him is. I feel like there’s some target fixation here.

6:48 fella ahead has a little bit of a wide moment exiting chicane. Here comes another run? Yes.

7:28 are you slightly feathering throttle to not touch? This might be a case of ā€œI’m gonna push him down the road hereā€. I think your pace was higher and you could have messed with his mind a bit here by pushing him along. It would help him but also might put him out of his comfort zone if not used to it.

7:39 You set yourself up for a stronger exit, which you get, but again you come to rest on his bumper. Use that momentum to go left and around. There’s a lot of space/time before corner. Or am I not seeing something here?

9:21 that’s the spirit! Do it again but with a better run.

10:15 ask and ye shall receive :hammer_and_pick:

Wasn’t enough so at 11:53 you change it up and instead of running wide left entry you go inside right at same corner. I am intrigued to see what happens… Nice move but @Racer_Rick12 was not sufficiently intimidated and you guys went wheel to wheel, equally. It’s a draw!

13:19 Rick drops a wheel and loses some speed. Is it the end for @Racer_Rick12? Is he doomed?

No! I have no idea what just happened! The grandstands erupt in consternation and confusion. No harm done, you guys built enough of a gap you kept position.

Nice race you two! That looked like a lot of fun!

Do the boys have any idea how special that track is? My experience with motorsport facilities is generally that they are in places where humans try to avoid. This place is just lovely.

That turn where I come up on his bumper afterwards is difficult. On that straight the left side of the track comes in really close right in the braking area, so if I were to go outside I’d get squeezed pretty badly. I’ll post the pre final but I pass him on the inside at that turn, which he learned from, and never let me get by again. Even when he dropped a wheel and I went around the outside I wasn’t ahead enough to make the pass, so it wasn’t gonna happen any other time. I shouldn’t have feathered throttle, just got nervous. At 13:19 I had WAY less grip than expected and brakes to late, sending me off into the grass. Maybe at 11:53 I could’ve tried the outside so I would’ve had the inside for the following turn. Tires were also overheating due to the track drying so I was figuring out grip as I went. Rick made his kart as wide as possible and raced hard, so I just couldn’t find a way around. If I had braked earlier at 13 maybe I would’ve gotten 2nd but who knows.

Slightly off topic as it is not Kart Racing…
My dad just sent me some footage of an incident that happened right behind him.

Fortunately for my dad, he was just in front of the guy that dropped a tire caused the incident.
