I am a retired mechanical engineer (large aircraft) spanning 30 years. Motocross was my passion during that time but I had ridden on and off since 1971. I was a Texas Peace Officer 1986-89 to pay my way thru college. I spent four great years in the USMC and left as a Corporal. I then transferred to the USAF and worked at Travis, AFB in CA. This was 1980-85.
I grew up in a rural town in Northeast Texas. I built my first mini bike at 8 and then got a kart at 10. It was just for fun. (I was amazed when a “real” kart race was held at the University parking lot in the early 70’s) I then moved to a motorcycles at around 12 which I stuck with. From 1975-79 I was in high school, hauled thousands of square bales every summer, played sports, worked at Piggly Wiggly, rode bikes, and restored a 1949 Dodge pickup before I got my license. I became interested in F1 in the late 60’s. I was hard pressed to find magazines but I did (or dad did) and I ate them up. I never lost that interest either (but how it has changed!) Anyway, that’s me then. Ever since I stopped MX at 50yo (stupid promise to the wife!) I’ve been looking for an adrenaline outlet. I came across DKC and the rest is history (or the future). I must admit that I’m more of an Alan Dove type of old school gearhead - it’s just coming from that time in my life where I had to do everything to make something to race at a very early age - it sticks with you.
So this is me introducing myself to Kart Pulse.
