@Stamatis125 I don’t think there are too many NASCAR fans left, certainly not in here!
Personally I found the Daytona race to be a complete snoozer. The current gen car and direction NASCAR has gone makes the cars drive reasonable well in a pack and super challenging to overtake even with a solid bump draft. So long as these cars have lower power and are locked down with aero its gonna be a boring pack race until someone pulls a Joey Logano and wads them all up…
Not a shock for Joey to be involved in a wreck in front of the field. Seen him up front and wreck out on a few occasions over the years.
You are absolutely right with regards to this crowd. However, this is a niche market of racing enthusiasts. I think the casual fans still find NASCAR pretty entertaining.
Kinda hard to find unbiased viewership numbers on the internet, but it appears in the US NASCAR is by far the most popular auto racing and still 2 to 1 ~ish over F1.
I completely forgot the 500 was on.
In general I find NASCAR to be unfollowable these days, but superspeedway racing especially is just a crapshoot. Pack all the cars together, spec aero that allows no one to get away, and make it a total lottery as to who is going to win or be collected in a massive unnecessary pile-up in the final stint.
I’ve gone from watching every race as a kid, to road courses and Daytona through my 20’s to now rarely watch any race.
Tuned in to Daytona and beyond the obvious rain issues the race was horrible. Now that they run around track 50-60% throttle and this ridiculous stage racing, there is no green flag stops. No green flag stops means zero strategy. Just mess of racing.
Nascar is no longer racing when it comes to super speedways.
Agreed! Its a 200MPH demolition derby.
Thank you all guys for the replies on the opening first race of the cup .
I agreed that was a some how boring opening race night . But if you see nascar from my eyes …
Its something that still has some american flavour in . And i am fan of that .
2 days before daytona i had a good time just admire the new liveries for that year and even if its not my favorite liveries colour year after the check . Im still happy that nascar still exists.
Love the Michael’s Jordan happy approach and hoping for a good bubba year !!
Dont forget . Nascar was something really rare to watch in my childhood days here in europe .
. maybe 2 times per year a sport channel made some big highlights report . But that was all …
Reallly love also the back from the dead that i had seen in the series for some old race track like Charlotte …
I know it is not quite near karting sport and i am a karter enthusiast .
But still like to laught in quite on the try to not wake up our family … as my and my buddy . Or just me … enjoy a beer and watch the racing action in the kichen tv .
Because nascar here my friends its a sport that comes live on screen … at graveyard time hours !!
Totally respect the novelty of it from a non-American viewpoint. Seeing the 24 Axalta scheme or similar does bring back nostalgia from when I was young and just starting to love racing and watching NASCAR every weekend.
But for me it is too much like WWE these days. More entertainment than sport. But just my opinion! Don’t let me yuck your yum.
I really love to watch Nascar, I don´t get the hate.
One of the last racing series that are actually exciting. Everything can change in a matter of seconds. I get, that it´s frustrating to see drivers that are faster not beeing able to run away from the field, but that somehow also makes it even more thrilling.
And don´t even get me started on watching it in person…
Meanwhile in Europe you could be on a serious business call while standing at the track because everythings so freakin quiet, really takes the fun out of it.
Anyway, it was a bad day to be a Kyle Busch fan… again…
I think 10 years of being involved in karting, watching it live at Club/RTE66/USPKS has ruined most other motorsports for me. Kart races are almost ALWAYS exciting with positions contested every lap and hardly every a runaway winner. You don’t get that from Nascar/Indy/F1. It’s mostly become strategy and who has the fastest car. Not much in-race excitement unless there’s a crash.
It’s probably the same reason I enjoy the Dirt Legends or 4 banger classes at the local oval tracks. They provide the most side by side action.
So lucky you got that dirty ovals racetracks .
Thats where the real fun is !!
Quite literally could be the coolest part about living in America (and I am double spoiled by living in Indiana). Dirt racing (non-wing sprint cars is my flavor of choice) is a unique thing that I think IS the most exciting racing on the planet.
The dirt track racing was one of the few positives when I lived in Ohio. So many options to watch within a 2 hour drive. Several tracks with weekly 360 sprints and options for wing and non-wing sprints. Spent plenty of Saturday nights checking out different venues and enjoying racing not available in Texas.
Back home in TX and I don’t have any tracks within an hour that run a regular schedule and only a 2 tracks within 2 hours. The fields are mostly Stocks and Limiteds. Still enjoyable, but I miss the regular sprint classes!!!
We almost went dirt karting instead of sprint karting, but the track safety was a glaring difference that swayed me to chase asphalt.
To everyone; get out to a local dirt track to watch if you can! Even if you aren’t an oval fan. It’s so fun and helps keep local racing around. With real estate developers and whiny neighbors constantly trying to get tracks to shut down, local dirt racing needs fans to come out. It’s how I got into motorsports.
Reminds me of the line…
Asphalt is for getting there. Dirt is for racing!
Racing happens where it happens (Land, sea and air) and dirt is for potatoes.

don’t know if anyone else watched Atlanta yesterday but Carson Hocevar reminds me a bit of Robby Gordon lol
The Blaney deal was not so bright but the last lap was going to go down as one of the best moves to win a race ever. Pushing Bell to the lead, then splitting Bell and Larson to go from 3rd to 1st for the checker was set up to be crazy. Until NASCAR went and did a typical NASCAR going against the precedent set at Daytona and all weekend.
The irony of Kyle Busch getting mad at him for doing young Kyle Busch things is mildly entertaining to me.
