Hey guys,
What is the equivalent of the X30 in the world of 4-stroke kart engines? What about the CR125 stock class?
Do you typically see longer rebuild times with these compared to 2-strokes?
Thanks!

SA250, exists in carb and EFI
Are they quicker than Leopard or slower? looks like they make more power but are heavier.
I donāt know the Leopard unfortunately
Appreciate the information. Iām doing a little bit of research on them. Looks pretty fast from the YT videos Iāve watched. Can compare lap times at different tracks somehow when I have time.
Similar performance to a Leopard. I think when they ran in mixed TaG together the weights were similar. They sound sick too.
No idea on maintenance and running costs; I only ever saw one racing. Pretty uncommon here in the States.
Very interesting. I was just curious on some of the costs involved. To me, it still seems like a CR125 shifter is the way to go for low maintenance and good open lapping performance to stay sharp. I have the PRD right now and was thinking about doing the Galaxy trade in when it gets close to grenading, but given how long that could be from now I was trying to see other options.
The Galaxy trade in is mostly just for a cost effective approach. I could get another few years of karting out of one of those for dirt cheap on a trade in.
A used CR125 thatās been well maintained is about the best bang for buck you can get. Iāve seen good examples pop up for as little as $2500.
There used to be a biland 250 about 20 years ago, similar to rotax max lap time wise, maybe more torque.
Someone roadraces a 4cycle shifter with the Dart Kart Club Series, I think itās some sort of Chinese maker. I have only seen 2 on track However CR125 would be fun or a Rotax seem to be pretty bulletproof compared to the other tag engines.
This may be the newāish Daytona Anima 190 shifters that have their own facebook group and a growing in popularity on the west coast (apparently?) There were a few at Daytona, and our team may have inadvertently bump drafted one to destructionā¦.oops! At least the replacement engines areā¦.ācheap.ā Iād figure a CRF250 would be a good middle ground, and was disappointed that project never gained popularity. Didnāt Memo Gidley and friends have some for a while? Trackmagic resurrected, so perhaps thereās hope for 4 cycle shiftersā¦
Biland 250 became Swissauto 250cc
Biland is still popular racing in Germany. And the SA250 is more like a ābrotherā of the Biland:
ā- Biland
ā- SA250
For those curious how it sounds:
Bit of an adjunct to this specific topic, but really aside from the Anima/Zongshen based four stroke shifter, the options havenāt changed.
Honestly that would be ideal. TaG kart and CR125. This is how it startsā¦then its a formula carā¦and thenā¦and thenā¦haha
Just saw all the other replies: yeah guys, I really like the idea of a super reliable 4-stroke Honda based platform. I thought Memo Gidley did a 450 for some reason, but maybe Iām not recalling correctly. I wonder if 4-strokes given the same weight and setup would be faster due to having more torque or if that wouldnāt necessarily apply.
I have to get through the PRD fireball I just rebuilt, but I like to see whatās out there and where the market is. So much to do at the moment and I just got an unexpected bill (yayā¦life) that has put racing on hold for a while. Really close to finishing my restoration of a 2007 EVX.
Everything should be working correctly at this point. Just need to do a first start up.
I had a lot of help on the rebuild from a really experienced person, but I am nervous as it is the first time in the sport I am on my own with regards to full tear down, cleaning, and reassembly of all components including the engine. Mentors are getting older and out of the sport and I am a 1 man army now in my motorsport endeavors.
They sounded great in fairness, like a motocross bike really. If they were still raced and I wanted to race in a automatic class I would highly consider them.
There were really long rebuild intervals from memory too
Long rebuild intervals are kind of my new thing in karting. I just want seat time for low $$$. Rebuild on the PRD cost about $500. Did everything myself but honing the cylinder and pressing the crank together.
