So I have a handling issue that’s not that big of a deal really, but it probably would be worth some mild gains if I could figure it out.
The situation is this - I generally am very happy with the handling of my kart. There’s always something that can improve, but basically pretty solid all around. Except…for this little half kink right before the straight. My kart gets a pretty bad hop going. I think the issue is that a) the turn is so slight that I’m not getting much of a jacking effect, and b) my ROK GP’s power valve is kicking in at the same time, which is never helpful.
Honestly, I can just grind it through ok, probably costing a little drive there, and definitely isn’t comfortable, but I don’t want to dash my whole setup to adjust for one corner, when the rest are working fine.
Years ago I was racing at Badger I think. Anyway I had the benefit of having the designer of the kart there. He helped me improve my time. I got to all that was left was I was hoping in one corner. I asked him what to do about that corner. He said - Drive smoother.
Hopefully you will get a little better answer, but I do think if the problem is in one corner it may be a need to change your line in that corner
If it’s one corner, you have to drive around it. Obviously doesn’t make sense to tune for one of the many corners on a track.
Couple things to try:
different line, initiating turn in sooner may slow down the weight transfer enough to end the hopping
feather throttle application at max load, anticipating when the power valve is going to hit and adjusting throttle input will keep the kart from torquing up at that boost of power
Stronger posture in the seat, bracing yourself more strongly into the sides of the seat with firm straight arms will reduce the floppy meat sack from wobbling the kart around and making it over-transfer at max load
