I have reviewed manuals I have found online; however, none of them spell out what the settings should be for EGT? I have configured a custom menu with SPEED / RPM / WATER TEMP / EGT however when I start the engine the EGT does not display I am wondering if there is a minimum setting and it will not display until the threshold is set?
This is going to sound dumb, but if you hit the On button while the unit is already powered on, I believe it cycles through the layouts of the main screen
Jake just tried that it works, but the question is if I have configured a custom display should they all show up in that display even if the device is not connected to a kart? I have set 4 parameters but only GPS Speed and RPM are displayed?
Do you have anything plugged into the Mychron itself?
I think the sensor cable has to be plugged in for it to show the two temp fields, and it may actually require the sensors themselves to be plugged in also.
Quick recommended setup
For the most common kart setup, EGT + Water:
-
Plug in the 1 TC + 1 TR patch cable.
-
Install EGT on the yellow thermocouple lead.
-
Install Water Temp on the thermo-resistor lead.
-
On the dash: MENU → System Setting → Temperature Setup.
-
Set Mode = Manual.
-
Set Harness Type = TC/TR.
-
Set IN1 = Exhaust Temp and IN2 = Water Temp.
-
Set alarms after confirming both readings are stable. Use your engine builder’s limits rather than generic alarm numbers.
My guess would be that anything that is reliant on a sensor being plugged into whatever powertrain system you’re trying to measure would not show up on the screen if not plugged into said system on the kart. Simply because there is nothing there for it to sense. The plug from the unit is connected to nothing, so it doesn’t know what’s there.
Yeah, with my daughter’s 5, it only shows EGT when there’s an EGT to show. It reads right away though when it is and shows ambient when the engine is off
Turns out the sensor was bad, it does in fact show the ambient temperature when the Mychron is turned on and the lead is connected.
