AIM smartycam - few questions

hey crew!

I am looking to upgrade my data and driving analysis. The prospect of quick and easy AIM smartcam sync with the race studio3 for data analysis with my team on the track seems worth the extra cost vs just using a gopro which is less reliable and slower to sync up data. The price seems absurdly expensive but I’ve only got ~90 days until supernats for my first big shifter race and i need all the learning curve acceleration i can get.

  1. does anyone know if the normal AIM sporty cam has an internal microphone or does it require an external microphone to use?

  2. the normal smartcam 30fps seems pretty weak in 2025, has anyone bought that and wished they upgraded to the corsa with 60fps?

  3. any overall thoughts on if the corsa is that much better and worth higher price than the normal sporty cam?

thanks!

I imagine that the smartycam as a package is plug and play and makes everything seamless. I used to try to synch mychron data with GoPro footage and it was a pain in the butt. Not recommend. If you want this as a training/data tool and aren’t into it from a video quality perspective, it’s probably worth it.

All of the SmartyCams have internal mics.

For a kart, I would stick to the Sport. For data analysis and driver improvement, 30 fps is great. I don’t think many people use the 60 fps on the other cameras.

In a car, a Corsa is way better. On the kart, I’ve found the Sport to be great. I’ve got on one both of my karts. I don’t think I’ve sold any Corsa for a kart (though I have a few Dual!).

I paid a guy to coach me about a month ago and he told me that he found it a bit difficult to tell what I was doing in 30 fps off my Insta360 and he wished it was 60 fps. Never had another coach say this. Something to think about though.

Because the frames were at .033 seconds each or because of the wavyness from the rolling shutter? The SC line has always had global shutter so the frames are clear and there is no wavyness.

If you have a 40 mph corner, the 30 fps gets you an image every 2 feet. That is pretty detailed for driver analysis and placement. Add in the ability to bring the video into RS3 for analysis, and you have a lot of power and capability to improve the driver.

@TrailBrakeMatt I’m not sure.

Cam has built in mic.

For 206 and KA, 30FPS is enough, especially you use conjunction with Mychron data.

Corsa has USB connector so you have connect directly to PC, you have to pull the SD card out to do anything with sport. Once you get used to it, it is fine.

If the price difference is only $200-$300. I will go with Corsa no brainer, I am not sure Corsa is really worth it at almost double the price of sport.
