Anyone running Redline in their LO206?

Just had a new sponsor come on board, a local auto parts store. He’s a redline dealer and can get their 4T oil. Anyone use it in their 206? Any concerns?

Unpopular but true opinion: ANY QUALITY OIL WILL DO JUST FINE.

Once it reaches the point of temperature of operation, most of the lubricity and viscosity figures are similar.
Oils are a market saturated in snake OIL and propaganda.

Also, a single driving error negates any gain you’ll see from oil type.

So, I’d pick a good Redline and use. Just don’t mix types/brands without flushing the engine.

I favor Rotella T6 because it’s cheap and available at any WalMart or similar. I use it in just about every 4 cycle I have, including motorcycles with wet clutches. (Being a diesel oil, it doesn’t have friction modifiers that kills clutches.)

I use Redline in my 2 cycle. No issues. I wouldn’t worry about their 4 cycle stuff. Especially since LO206s aren’t a high compression high temp engine.

Good luck!

T6 actually meets the JASO standards for wet clutches so that makes sense.

As a previous 206 engine company owner, I 2nd what Ted said. I cannot tell you how many “magic mystery” oils we tried on our dyno with 0 success. Get something affordable, keep it clean and change it reasonably often and have fun.

BTW, congrats on the sponsor. That is awesome and I wish you both a ton of success. Where are you located and who are they? I would gladly support their business if they are near by.

Racing4Vets at the OVKA used Redline a few years ago when I was with them (they may still use it), and there were no issues.

For the record, im not looking for the new magic oil, or flavor of the week, ive never been one to buy into the snake oil effect, infact ive used the same brand of oil for 5 years in my son’s engines, since i trust it to be reliable. Thats really my only concern since im not familiar with redline.

It just so happens my dealer no longer sells the oil i have been using, and this sponsor is a redline dealer, so as long as its quality, I’ll happily start using it.

To answer your other question, its a local autoparts store called Whitelaw Automotive. They are a parts store, industrial bearing supplier, automotive paint supplier and have a machine shop. 3 locations in Woodstock, Paris, and Cambridge Ontario.

I reread your question now and realize I did miss the point. Sorry for getting on my soap box. I agree with the folks saying redline is just fine.
