Hi guys, is there anything in replacing axles after a few years of use?
I notice a lot of the top drivers and teams are regularly selling used axles so I was wondering if they wear out or start working different over time? Specifically otk axles
I don’t think I’ve ever had an axle go multiple seasons without getting bent.
I don’t know as though I’ve ever felt a difference in old to new axles.
I do believe they sell because of the dents made by the grub screws. They won’t risk getting problems later on a race day if they need to get a new axle in quick
I have to life the super-noodle cadet axles… some of them (looking at you, Nitro/Parolin) we’re on thin ice for total failure after 6 or so race weekends even if no major contact, shorter if he’s been too much in the wars. Also broke the thinnest PKT 30mm axle after about a season of use, and a competitor broke the same part number PKT axle in the same place after about 1.5 seasons of use.
Despite knowing about the lifespan challenges of the super-thin 30mm axles, in 3 years of cadet racing have 4 DNFs associated with them, so I am very much looking foraward to a 40mm or 50mm axle when he goes to Junior next year.
Wow! We bent a lot of cadet axles but never broke one. Mainly CRG and OTK. They were all pretty thick.
When I read TJ’s comment my first thought was “ if your axle wears out before you bend it your not racing hard enough”
