Bengio first drive report and question (cracks)

I just used my new Bengio for the first time yesterday I did 74 laps over 4 sessions at T4 KartPlex in the KZ. First and foremost, let me say that it works amazing. I have zero torso soreness today after hammering all those laps on that Bumpy track.

My question is about these cracks that showed up on the side. When I flex it all of the structural rigidity still feels like it’s there it just seems like surface cracks in the resin. Anybody else have this occur and if so, was it OK long-term?

Mine looks kinda like that, but it’s mostly because I used to wear it over the outside of my suit so that the rib protector rubbed directly against the seat. Are you wearing it inside your suit or outside?

I am wearing it inside my suit.

That doesn’t look right. Mine gets scuffed but that looks like thr carbon fiber failed. Is it still rigid? Could be a non issue.

Wear it inside of your track suit !!

It is still rigid. Feels exactly like it did when it was new earlier that day

No it shouldn’t look that bad after a session. What do your seat bolts look like? It’s another expense, but I always run the low profile bolts by my ribs. Also just a coincidence I have mine out. I run a strip of wide Velcro where the seat bolts are. Seems to allow the rib protector to slide around a bit more, protects the surface, and not chaff on the seat bolts. I believe this has also saved my suits from getting torn up from seat bolts.

They’re flat heads in washers, they sit flat. This is just from the force of driving.

I would swap those out if you can. They will slowly (or in your case quickly) destroy rib protectors or suits.

Interesting those look like they stick out more than what I have.

I’ll snag a picture tomorrow if I can remember but they are very thin and rounded over so they don’t create such a high pressure point.

The ones I had were stupidly expensive but effective. They didn’t have that lip 1/16th of an inch.

I tried those as well. The only thing I don’t like was needing and extra tool sitting around.

:point_up_2: This :point_up_2:

Tried some fancy bolts once, not again. In a hurry and head is damaged, tool breaks, or tool is lost and you are resorting to dremel to hack it off and put a standard fastener on.

I think I am just gonna put some 1/16" adhesive backed rubber on the sides of the seat over those bolted areas.

These are very low profile

Use a dsuz fastener driver for secure hold while tightening
flat head screw driver doesn’t work well

I use the same 1/2" flat washers that you do. Those are my favorite things to use for the seat. I’ve used the righetti special bolts too and those are very flat too, but I hate using a flathead on them.

I cracked the tool they sell with it, but found that large snap ring pliers work a lot better anyway. I like these bolts (I’ve had a lot of rib issues) and find that using the snap ring pliers is not big deal at all.
