I’m a national driver, I do races with official team. I’m thinking about buying a shifter engine to train myself on wet, so what I need is only durability. I don’t mind if it could be slow, old and what manufacter is. My goal is only to run on wet track and save money (both for the duration, for the cost and maintenance time, and for the purchase price) What is the best engine for this?
I heard from some people in my track that the IAME 175cc X30 shifter is pretty reliable, only needs bottom end every 36hrs. Since you’ll only be using it in a wet track it can definitely last quite a few months. I’m not aware of prices in your area, but used karts with this engine aren’t too expensive here.
I’m guessing you’re not in the US, but if you are a Honda CR125 (kart prepared) would be maximum bang for buck. Or a CR250.
CRF250 (the four stroke) would give similar performance to a 125, but for training might not be ideal if you’re racing a two stroke since gear selection is more critical with the 2t
But realistically kart engine wise I think the 175 as mentioned would be a good way to go. Rok shifter could be an option too.
Yes I’m looking for a 125 2t, right now the 175 is not an option. I’m fron Italy, here engines like Honda, 4t and 175 are not used. Rok shifter may be a good solution. How long is the durability? Aproximately
From what I read online, a good rebuild interval for the ROK shifter is 10hrs top end/20hrs bottom end. I don’t have experience with this engine but it sounds reasonable.
TM KZ 10B if you want the performance, reliability and super low entry price (which buys you rebuilds). If you are driving on wet you won’t be jetting it too crazy so it will last quite a bit.
+1 for rok shifter. They are quite reiable, parts availability is good, and with the stock pipe and jetting configuration you still run it very safe. Would highly recommend.
