Play plastic pod games, get plastic pod prizes.

I do think that should have been a penalty though.

By SKUSA’s rules, it all depends on whether they classify this as an “incident”, in which case they could apply a 5-second penalty for “careless driving”. Should it be enforced differently if it’s for 5th place? 10th place? How does an official know Billy didn’t brake early?

To me this is not worthy of a penalty. Gavin obviously made contact with him, and gained an advantage as a result, but I think the notion of karting being completely contactless is dead. It sucks that Billy got moved, but I don’t think it was egregious enough to warrant a penalty.

If you have to move someone it’s not a pass IMO. SKUSA shifter no longer run push backs right? So it’s even more fair game to just move someone.

This in effect means you can’t defend the last corner. You will lose 100% of the time. Well, if I was behind anyway.

Until officials give more clarity on this type of scenario, then so be it. The reality is that some degree of “moving” exists (and is permitted, though not explicitly written) in American karting culture. How is this type of move regulated in the UK? What about at the International level?

I’d be annoyed by it if I were Billy. But as far as contact goes that was pretty tame I thought. I’m not even sure that would’ve been a push back if they used them in shifter.

The shifter guys voted to take away the push back so in my opinion this is the kind of stuff you get.

It’s so easy to defend in KZ so I’m my eyes you sort of have to deal with the consequences of that.

I agree that if we’re allowing the block line, we have to allow this (not saying Billy ran the block line). However, Alan is right. If I’m in second place in the last corner, I can’t lose. I either dive or bump. Either way I’m good.

I know how it feels when I pass someone that way. Wrong.

I know it is “acceptable” and to be expected, but it is not a pure practice, and should be more tightly policed in my opinion.

Back in my day the wheels all being exposed did a lot to curb that type of driving, but it still happened. I lost the 2002 S1 winter tour championship by getting punted off at the end of the straight at 103rd. No penalties. I have learned how to defend against it somewhat effectively but it’s still a 50/50 proposition.

@ApexGRT what is the best way to defend if you think you’re gonna get bumped from behind like this? Stand on the brakes?

Let them by on the last lap, and bump them at last corner

This would have been a 10 seconds time penalty anywhere else. You are entitled to defend your position with a single change of line. Using your kart to intentionally push someone off, wether it incur the spoiler dropping or not, warants a penalty.

I personally find the comments on FB amusing, with people aluding that “It’s great racing”, as i fail to see what superior skill is demonstraed by bumping someone off line to pass. It takes literally no expertise to do it.

Don’t like the fact that you can drive tight lines and still get away with it? Though shit, welcome to shifter kart racing. If you want to see a ton of overtakes and slightly smarter and astute driving, drive in single speed categories.

It takes SOME skill to do it without wrecking a guy, no?

if it was a kart from 1980 maybe. Not modern.

Multiple times this kind of action happened, and it was penalized. Last turn last lap makes it ultra obvious as well

Yeah, go ridiculously inside and slow so you get hit in the center of the rear bumper. In a shifter, go down one extra gear.

It’s all about timing and it is still marginally successful.

Rebel Scum approved, sometimes you must gently move a fellow. That looked fine to me. :squinting_face_with_tongue: I’d still be mad but that’s what the race director is for.

Done and done.

I don’t know how smart KA was this weekend either though… three separate flips in 6 laps on Saturday.
