We had a teammate switch from running their Briggs on an OTK chassis to a Coyote. He went from overweight to almost 15 lbs under. Is this common knowledge that the coyote is a lightweight chassis? Where is the weight savings coming from, or is the OTK a heavy chassis?
As far as I know OTK is like a middle point in terms of weight. The heaviest chassis I know is Sodi because a local driver who switched from OTK to Sodi put less ballast on the latter
What tubing size on the Coyote? Tubing diameter and wall thickness will change the weight a lot.
I once tried a 28mm Tony Kart Nordix in Senior Yamaha and we had to add like 20 lbs of extra weight compared to my standard 30mm Racer, because the kart was both shorter and also the tubing weighed less.
OTK is definitely on the heavier side. The coyotes are either 30mm or 1 1/4" depending on which option your friend went with.
Pretty common to need to add lead when switching off the OTK. 15 lbs seems like a lot, but is not unheard of. My Eagle is about 20ish pounds lighter than an OTK.
Lightest kart I ever had was a TrackKart. That thing was a featherweight, like insanely so.
Does TrackKart still exist? I know we talked about them several years ago on here.
No idea, I only had it for a short time before I sold it. Was fast out of the box though.
Jeremy does not make them for production anymore but there are still quite a few floating around. I saw one at MCC last club race and there’s one leading the points in masters at Whiteland.
