After a couple years using only 2nd hand tyres, I realized that it is a good investment to buy a 2000W heatgun to remove the old rubber instead of spending 2 stints for that…
I´m just wondering if I need to start with low temperatures over the whole surface and then scrape it with higher temperatures or if I just go 100% from the start..
For my daughter’s Kid Kart, she builds enough heat that any rubber on the track sticks like glue but not enough sliding to keep them clean, but she keeps the tires perfectly clean when running the Cadet setup. I look forward to never having to scrape again, haha.
To OP, I prefer power and working quickly. I actually use a torch, and I use the scraper to shield the good rubber from the flame. The bad rubber comes right off, and you don’t actually put much heat into the carcass of the tire. It took some practice because I’d get a patch of blue sometimes on the sidewall when the flame hit it, but I can now do it without significant bluing anywhere.
