Crack in the seat post weld?

Hello All!

Just found this on the seat post weld. It looks like a crack to me.

Can this be welded again?

Yes it can be welded, do it all the time. Preferably TIG welding.

Any good place in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania that can do this?

Seat struts are one of the most common places for a crack to show on a kart frame and they are easily repaired. You will need to remove the seat and possibly the brakes to give the welder good access. If no one at your track does this, a google search for a welder/ fabricator should give you some names in your area. The area on the frame will have to be wire brushed to remove the powder coat and the heat will possibly discolor the paint some too. A little primer and fluorescent yellow paint will be needed to cover the weld when done. Check all the seat stays as its possible you may find some others cracked too.

Yep I just welded a small crack on mine. No big deal.

Just stopped by a local welder.

He said no problem but I have to remove the brake and seat and whatever is in the way as mentioned.

The gentlemen said that he needs to ground the frame (which I figured). Should I remove anything else? Starter, Starter relay, mychron? Will anything get damaged?

Sorry for the noob questions!

Nothing will get damaged, you just need to remove bits to allow access for the welder to do the repair, the more bits you remove around that area the easier it will be for the welder to work on the crack

Remove the battery and gas tank. Sometime it is easier to weld if you can tilt the kart to get a better angle. The less stuff in place the easier.

Thank you guys!

I dropped it off yesterday….

Ended up removing a lot of things…..motor, seat, brakes, gas tank and lines etc…..

We will see!

I wish TonyKarts would ship with the seat posts already cracked…would save time.
