I feel like Danger Dorito deserves a special themed livery.
There will be a stream for the Buddha Kinser (BK15) memorial race on the 25th, don’t recall if it’s free or paid but when the link comes available I’ll share it on here for anyone who may want to follow along. It’s the biggest speedway dirt kart race west of the Mississippi. The UAS (Unlimited All Stars) or Open is the premier class, but there will be a whole array of different classes. I know this site is mostly for sprint, but the dirt oval stuff is hella fun also.
As someone who has participated in multiple BK races, can confirm that it is awesome. I hope I can make it to watch this year
With the addition of a radiator fan I built a new wiring harness for the Danger Dorito. Took some time, and I hate wiring but I’m happy with how it came out. Also got tire prep all done. Got some minor odds and ends to tie up and load up for this weekend. Have 1 kid kart, 4 KT karts, and my Danger Dorito UAS kart heading to Salem for some dirt track action.
Well BK week has come… It’s been a hectic one so far and no chance of letting up. On a weird swings (12-10pm) schedule at work this week so I’ve been prepping stuff in the mornings before going to work. Ran the kart in one session last weekend and everything felt good. Came off track and the clutch was locked up, smh. Got it home and luckily it’s an easy fix as it just grenaded the thrust bearing which was jamming up the clutch. Apparently the clutch builder doesn’t use any grease on it, which I’ve heard of before but seems silly. They are worried about grease getting on the discs, but I’ve never had an issue with that in all the years I’ve run disc clutches. So replacing that thrust bearing and it should be good to go with some grease. I’ll load up tomorrow morning and then head out after work so we’ll be there in the wee hours of Friday morning. Friday evening I’ll try to do an update post after practice.
Friday practice went fairly well, one small hiccup but everything is working well. Here’s the link to the page that will be streaming, they don’t have the stream made yet but this is the page.
Well… the BK15 with the Danger Dorito didn’t go at all how I’d hoped. The whole day was one big shit show. It was somewhat setup I feel like Friday night when they didn’t grind the track after practice like they had in the past. Regardless, everyone is racing on the same surface but it didn’t help as my kart didn’t handle some of the ruts and bumps in the track as well as some others. Race morning hot laps I got two laps in before a guy in front of me spun and in trying to avoid getting into him I got into the wall. That bent up the bumper and some bits but thought the kart was mostly okay, got it on the scales and checked alignment and thought we were good. Qualifying came and I spun in turn 3 on my first lap, spun around and got my 2nd lap in but it wasn’t good so I was last in 19th. Heat 1 starting 9th I was up to 5th when I spun entering turn one. The kart was really unsettled entering the corners and though I was trying to ease it into the corner it didn’t take much for it to let go and once it did it was near unsaveable. Decided to try a different set of tires for the second heat and made some adjustments, starting on pole due to invert I held the lead for 4 or 5 laps until we got a caution. After the restart a couple laps in I lost it going into turn 1 and piled up a few karts, and mine died during that. Nothing worse than to spin in front of the field, felt like such a hack. I wasn’t trying to push too hard, and was expecting a nose inside any time but again it just let go. So to the B main I went from near the back of a 7 kart field with 4 to transfer to the A main. I was sitting 4th quickly when around the kart went again into turn 1 and in trying to pedal it to save it I let out too long and it died. My weekend was done, and was a rough one to say the least. Some stuff to work on for next year, need to revamp my tire program a bit and may be in the market for a new kart as mine was pretty evil after that morning warmup accident.
Oh, that stinks…. Enjoyed following along, was waiting for the recap from the weekend.
Yeah it was disappointing to say the least. After a P5 last year and potential for more I was looking to at least match or beat that finish. The whole day was just frustrating. We never gave up, but it just wasn’t our day.
