Would just like to find out what people think of electric race karts ?? Not rental karts… Seems like alot of kart makers are gearing up for electric racing karts. Looks like there a growing category in Europe.
Yup, Rotax has an electric category even Sws has an E-sprint category, I don’t mind the electric karts but being fully honest I don’t see myself driving one especially performance wise its either really consistent or just horrible and it doesn’t give that rush that smell of fuel being burned and the engine going, Electric karts don’t really make much impact in terms of “climate change” they are mostly suited for indoor tracks, in my opinion gas powered karts are always outdoors not the place for electric.
Not sure if there’s a lot… yet, but would be interesting to start a list as I can only think of handful in the US and Europe as it grows.
Off the top of my head: Topkart USA, Sodi, K1. Jim Paulette’s project on the east coast which is slated to be on a Coyote chassis… Topkart USA’s project seems to have stalled possibly?
Rotax do have a few events in Europe and it’s nice to have some investment from BRP. I think BSR have events as well and are about to start in the US with WKA.
As for what I think… They’re a part of the sport’s future in some way or form. Electric vehicles appeal to the technical\nerdy side of me a lot. In terms of my own interest for racing, not so much.that I would be willing to part with cash either to purchase or rent. That said I like to be open mindedly (not sure if that’s a word) objective about things. So never say never. The idea of being able to observe tire noises on the limit is interesting. As well as being able to throw friendly insults at the competition and for them to be heard
I added the ev_karts tag to the topic, there’s some great discussions for those that haven’t read them already.
I agree with the insults half the times I thank god there is an engine running to not here the insults I’ve screamed in my helmet for the person infront of me
A market paradigm shift will most likely occur if/when battery capability/performance takes an order of magnitude leap beyond the current standard.
Here’s the rotax one they have a junior kart and adult kart… https://www.rotax-racing.com/project-e20
I think the 2 worlds can live together. Gas and Electric. Just a different kind of feeling kart. Very big torque and very quick to get to speed.
