Yeah winning is nice but I agree with him!
Sorry had to laugh at the Musgrave one. On Carroll Smith, I spent so many hour pouring over Tune to Win. Iād hazard a guess itās still very relevantā¦
From the mouth of one of my racing friendās dads. My friend was a little obsessed with how the kart looked
Wut? Blasphemy! If you gonna race, you gotta dress for it.
I only worried about what I looked like from behind.
The brown blur must be in the leathers.
I saw the Isle of Man flag and the Joey Dunlop book (and of course the copper head hammer hanging on the wall) in one of the shop pictures you posted.
Well warren .
Joey is one of my all times heroes and its still has a great impact in the way i live my life . Many times catch my self wonders how this dunlop or how that joey will done ? Or solve ?
It wasnt only super fast , but it was a true good man !!
And from my early racing years in motorcycles i have kept my honda rs 125 , painted honda britain colours , just like some of dunlop bikes .
Now it is
sleeping on the upper floor of the garage . Here photo for you !
Nice bike!
If I had a do-over, I would definitely go back and race bikes instead of cars⦠even if my parents threatened to kill me.
That is; Circuit racing, not crazy people racing.
Raise hell praise dale
āThe racing car is an inanimate object; therefore it must, eventually, respond to reason..ā - Carroll Smith (RIP)
My favorite is from a Williams documentary with Senna. It is a quote I have never heard repeated and I think it is very reflective of his character and maybe the guys who take the sport a little more āseriouslyā than others:
"One particular thing that Formula 1 can provide you is that you know we are always exposed to danger. Danger of getting hurt. Danger of dyingā¦this is part of your life. And you either face itā¦in aā¦in aā¦professionalā¦in a cool manner. Or you just drop itā¦just leave it and donāt do it anymore reallyā¦
ā¦and I happen to like too much what I do to just drop it. I canāt drop it."
-Ayrton Senna-
One of the most hardcore quotes Iāve ever heard especially when you consider what happened to him.
Was friends with the guy who this film was based on for the better part of a decade. Verrrrrry odd fellow. Have a lot of stories that will never be talked about until he is long gone.
Ah, the classic āIf Gap, Carā everyone uses immediately before the most horrendous dive bomb attempt of the weekend.
Iām a fan of Nolan Siegelās āI wasnāt going home because I liftedā after crashing out of the 500 bump day last year.
Also Andy Jankowiakās āIām just gonna put my foot on the floor and Iām not lifting until I see God or a checkered flagā from his ARCA race at Daytona last year.
And to wrap it up with an actually good quote from Mario Andretti, āItās amazing how many drivers, even at the Formula 1 level, think that the brakes are for slowing the car downā
Daytona last year was a blast ..
He said that it was a move that he used to do on his brother when they play nascar race game when they where kids !!!
Offcourse after that . This kind of approach now is forbidden..
