Final Vortex Rok update, first race weekend (I promise I won’t bother you guys anymore)

Last weekend we did this pre season testing thing and safe to say it was a bit of a rollercoaster. On Saturday we had some carb problems and we had starting problems because of some rain getting in the cables. Sunday was a lot better, engine was working nice and I was sending it in the rain, managed to bag second in class but it was more fun and games rather than professional.

This weekend (so far but it’s not like I’m going to race tommorow), engine started first try and first session was sketchy. I have no experience driving this kart in the dry without low power or problems so everything was just a bit too quick for me but the engine was Rapid! Insanely fast and that mid range is wonderful, but too fast since I have little experience but fun to drive.

2nd session was very good, I changed the carb settings so engine was even faster and I had a lot more confidence so I could push a lot harder

But then… We lined up for the 3rd practice and when I pressed the start button my kart moved forward. I looked at the clutch and saw metal confetti, this probably happened because the previous owner broke the clutch and “fixed it”. There goes another 100£ from my already empty wallet. So it’s Saturday evening now and safe to say I won’t be racing tomorrow . I’ll race in rentals tomorrow because it’s a six hour drive and I don’t want that to go to waste and any racing is racing.

This is my final post about this engine since I don’t want to litter people’s front pages with stuff they are not interested. If I ever need help I’ll post again but for now thanks to everyone who helped me with this journey. Atleast the engine survived 5 - 10 minute practices and two test races in my hands.

We’re interested. Keep posting :oncoming_fist:

we are interested of your progress keep posting .

the next step on the rok path as we all know in here i was on it too before you , is the upgrade from the old time clutch type to the new one .

the second choice is better and stronger and with to springs to break .

What will I need to buy to make the clutch fit onto my engine that uses the springed clutch? Also, is the extra 100 euros for a newer clutch really worth it?

check the scematics from this page . the whole upgrade kit is under those to see what you need .

you can buy those from many ventors around europe

Thank you very much! Do you notice any difference with the new clutch while driving or is it more for reliability?

More.reliability is the real deal , and i think the new set what something small better in performance but thats maybe my mind playing games . Or the better performance was just because it was a new set of fresh clutch

Will my pinion and cage from the old clutch drum fit onto the new one or will i have to buy a new one?

Νο nothing from the old type is usable .

Check the kit package and you can see the only think left the same is the bare side of your crankshaft, everything alse will change . And the gear for the electric starter bendix also .

On Kartstore you can find a complete kit to retrofit the new style clutch, as well as a replacement old style clutch. I would not bother and safe the money and go with what is already on the motor.
