Fixed vs Floating Brake Disc

Hey guys,

I’m just wondering on your overall opinions regarding a fixed brake disc compared to a floating system. I’ve noticed most karts have the floating system, specifically those designed for 2 stroke engines. 4 stroke chassis seem to have the fixed type. Basically just wanting to know the differences between the two and which is better.

Thanks!

Floating discs allow for thermal expansion and are less sensitive to a perfect alignment with the caliper as they float along the axis and about the axis. 2-strokes and shifters use this type because of the temperature swings seen by the rotors. More power, or higher speed requires more brakes which equates to more heat.

Fixed discs are fine for karts which don’t use their brakes as much.
