Good Balaclava

What do you guys think about the OMP KS Summer Balaclava. I’m thinking of getting it cuz I’m sweating to much in the club race here in Texas at DKC. Or do y’all recommend any other summer balaclava?

Yes. Go without. It’s just blocking the airflow through your helmet vents. You’ll have to wash your helmet pads a couple of times per season.

I got a helmet bag with a built in fan and I must say that it makes a huge difference in drying out your helmet. Its kind of a pain plugging it in for use but maybe a flat battery pack to plug the usb in.

I agree with Charles - Summer time is too hot for a balaclava, I’d rather clean the helmet liners every time. There are great products out there that are spray on - wipe off - and you are good to go

I have to use a balaclava as I sweat so much it runs into my eyes. You may want to have more than 1 so each session you start out dry.

I can’t go without balaclavas. I use the free ones I’ve collected from rental karting and I keep a couple on hand. Works like a charm, if it’s just to keep sweat out of your eyes I’d go for something thin and comfortable.

I too can’t go without a balaclava. I use the Adidas karting balaclava, it’s not so light it gets lost easily (I had AS previously it fell out from my helmet somewhere) yet light enough to be fine for the hot humid days.

Care to share what kind of helmet bag you use? Bcs i have the alpinestars bag but the fan blows a tiny air.

This one

That’s the one. If you open the bottom up and attatch the usb cable to a power source and let the bag rest such that the airflow isn’t obstructed, the helmet dries much faster. Theres a zipper on bottoms of bag around the fan to open flap. I think l without proper airflow, it’s ineffective. Have to allow air from under bag.

Is this the one you use?

It is indeed yes. 5 years old still going strong.

Nice, Thanks a lot! :+1:

We purchased my son a proper racing balaclava from OMP (OMP One Balaclava) through Driven Racing. We had several of the light weight karting ones that didn’t hold up well. The nicer balaclava means we have something ready to go when he gets occasional opportunities for car testing sessions.

I have somewhat longer hair and putting my helmet on without a balaclava while keeping my hair from being pushed down into my eyes is annoying haha. So, I wear a balaclava year round. The one I use is a super thin “summer weight” Alpinestars one. Works great and helps keep my helmet less sweaty. It is super nice on hot days to dunk it in ice water before putting it on!

I used one this weekend and it made me even sweatier!

I have another option if you are looking for something light to control sweat. I found these Skull cap helmet liners on amazon. Very light, works well for bike helmets as well as full face helmets. The only downside is they peel off with your helmet removal and there is no face or neck coverage.

Oh, I see! It’s kind of like a head band to keep sweat out of eyes?

With hair you only need a sweatband. I however need a little more help.
