I’m new to Karting and picked this project up. It appears to be a factory shifter / gearbox kart, but I can’t find any markings or chassis plates on it. It had a GPZ500 engine fitted, so I’m not sure what it originally would have had. It’s gotta be 15-20 years old at a minimum, perhaps older.
I asked on a reddit subforum r/karting, and was pointed towards this forum as a place to ask, in particular @KartingIsLife was mentioned as someone who may know?
The front wheel mounting is completely different to what I’d see on the OTK and Intrepid chassis’ I picked up
I think some of the guys from the movie Mad Max were riding around in something like that! Do you see any gun mounts anywhere? Lol. Good luck with the project! I think its cool.
I have no idea what it is unfortunately. It might have started out as a Villiers 210 shifter kart maybe? A lot of gearbox karts up to the early 90’s had the engine mounted on the right like that.
Deleted my last post as I think I replied to the wrong person
I think you could be on the money with that one! Looks pretty much identical!
Reason I’m trying to find out is I’d like to find out the exact build year of the chassis for a project.
Likely, I’ll not end up using the chassis for my project as I have a Tony and an Intrepid I also picked up, but due to the knuckle/stub axle mounting type, I can’t transfer the front brakes over.
Thanks for ID’ing it!
I’m actually in the process of trying to make a Kart road-legal, similar to what Anarchy Garage have done, so if this really is a 1980s chassis, and registerable, it could end up being tax/mot exempt in the UK if it all goes through on the correct chassis year which would be a bonus.
