Hilliard Flame Clutch Setup for Standing Start

That is correct! No weights.

i’m gonna go dry next race, give it a go!

Hi Spencer, just reading your thread and wondering how you got on?

Any learnings?

Thanks

I have not always been good about pulling the engine to TDC. I have not had issues. It still a good idea.

Particularly for new people when they say they are fast in the corner, but get pulled on the straight I have to ask are you sure you are braking early enough? Brake late and you will catch people about mid corner because you are still slowing and they have been slowed for a while. Then you are back on throttle late and they had been back on since the beginning of the corner. Maybe the engine has an issue. Definitely check it out. But also make sure you making sure you are braking early and back to gas early.

Jeremy when you say shoes leading or trailing are you referring to the toe or the heel? I’ve seen people refer to both the same way and that creates a little confusion.

Ever play with inboard trailing edge in your testing?

I believe most running the Hilliard in the NW for the standing starts are either all leading, or 2 leading and 2 following. Some depends on senior vs junior.

I have tried all leading or 2 leading/2 following before, all leading kills the shoes quick and it is not fast at heavy weight. 2 leading/2 following has the same problem, too much wear, and it engage the clutch super harsh. I think it will be a lot different in senior weight or junior weight, senior run a little higher engage rpm.

Not yet, my current chassis cannot run inboard.

You need weights and stiffer springs. Add that to your testing plan.

Sorry - worded that poorly. I meant to ask just simple - have you tested all trailing at any point? All of your scenarios show 4 leading or 2/2. But none with 4 trailing.

I’m just curious what others are seeing. I’ve done my own in all three ways and have my own opinion. For different parameters than heavy standing starts though.
