How are you mixing fuel...?

I sure thought things got easier when all the series moved to elf/motul and now the ratio is 1 liter to 5 gallons. Take your 1 liter bottle and dump into fuel jug, then take 5 gallon pail of fuel and dump into fuel jug and you’re golden.

I have been following the recommendation to put some fuel into the oil bottle to rinse out all oil and dump back into the fuel jug.

I got the following formula from TKart.

Oil Volume = (Petrol Volume) / (1 - (% Oil/100)) - Petrol Volume

That was based on liters fuel & ml oil.
So what I use is as follows based on 1 Gallon of Fuel, this much oil…:

1 Gal = 3.78541 Liter
1 Oz = 29.5735 MLiter

4% mixture:
Oil volume = 3.78541 / (1 - (4/100)) - 3.78541 = 3.78541 / 0.96 - 3.78541 = 0.15773 liters = 157.725 ml = 5,33 oz

4.5% mixture:
Oil volume = 3.78541 / (1 - (4.5/100)) - 3.78541 = 3.78541 / 0.955 - 3.78541 = 0.17837 liters = 178.370 ml = 6.03 oz

5% mixture:
Oil volume = 3.78541 / (1 - (5/100)) - 3.78541 = 3.78541 / 0.95 - 3.78541 = 0.19923 liters = 199.232 ml = 6.74 oz

What’s the impact of putting too much oil in the mixture performance & maintenance wise?

My gut is telling me performance will take a hit and un-burned fuel will leave more deposit… but not sure.

Power loss, bad buildup and could seize the engine due to sticking piston ring.

But that would mean a lot of oil!

On a hot summer day we run 7% on the old 100cc engines and does not having any problems with sticking. Running motul 2t kart gp

Any data I’ve seen on oil content shows an improvement in performance up to 16:1. ie less oil is not better. Especially with aircooled. Consensus is that the oil helps with ring seal and assists with heat transfer from piston to cylinder wall…

However, as pointed out you also need to be very aware of carbon buildup and gumming of rings… even with synthetics and de gummed castor,

I have a jerry can with gallon markings. I usually add the 6 oz of oil first then fill the can with fuel to the mark. Rok GP spec is 5%. I will likely be a slightly higher by adding the oil first, but have not had any issues. In any case, as long as you are consistent, you should not have any tuning problems. 0.1 to 0.01 is not that much of a big deal.
