Thought this might interest someone, you could use an old phone as a data logger with some wireless sensors. Phone sits inside a head unit to protect it from the elements.

Nice! I saw this a couple of weeks ago too. With more and more people having spare phones lying about (I think I have 3 unused iPhones at this point) this might be an area for growth. One thing for sure is you can iterate on the software much faster than you can with a device that takes firmware updates…
