IAME Super x30 175cc - Review

I ordered the Super x30 175cc engine a few months ago. There’s not many of these out there. It was really hard to find any good videos or reviews when I was shopping for one, so I just wanted to make a post in case anyone in the future is interested.

Here’s a video of this beast… It’s pulling 77mph on the longest straight, and over 70mph 4 times in a lap. I had a Swedetech TM R2 that only hit 79mph on the same configuration.

I still need to dial in the carb, gearing the chassis setup, and my driving . But it’s already 3 seconds faster than my KA100 around the track. Which may not seem like a lot, but when SKUSA came here (with a different direction and obviously way more grip), the KA100’s were running 47.4’s and in the Pro Shifter Class Billy Musgrave was only 3.2 seconds faster running 44.2. So I’m guessing this is not far off of a KZ once it’s dialed in, with a better driver.

The engine had a lot of weird issues out of the box. As soon as it started a bolt feel off the ignition. After 30 minutes the studs that hold the carb fell out! The bolts that hold the exhaust manifold were all coming lose and about to fall out after 30 min. The recommended carb settings were about 40% too rich. The part on the carb that the throttle cable hooks into and spins as the throttle arm moves, stopped spinning and snapped the throttle cable. I had a cheap chain on it and as soon as it hit the power band the first time it ripped it in half (my fault).

However, once I worked out all of these issues it has been sold. I’ll update in a few months with how it does at 15-20 hours.

If anyone wants an engine for practice that’s just fun and (should) last a long time, I’d recommend one of these! Its practically shifter kart performance with a push button start and long rebuild intervals.

Let me know if you have any questions. Glad to answer them.

What’s the cost and remind me what carb it comes with?

Unfortunately, the cost has gone up a lot in the last 3 months. It cost me $3,000. Shipping was free. Now the exchange rate is about 20% worse. So $3,600, plus tariffs, whatever those are. Seems to change daily.

It comes with the Tillotson HB-10A carb.

Do they still keep being made? Recently I heard IAME discontinued the SUDAM model so I was wondering if they still had support, especially with the new S125

As far as I know they’re continuing this. The 175cc shifters actually seem to be gaining popularity, I’ve seen a few at the track recently. These are pretty closely related.

Looks so sick. Does it eat tires?

AI didnt quite nail it but better than nothing:

I did about 40 laps and the tires look like they have 20% left maybe. I need to work on throttle control. I was just letting it rip. I didn’t realize it at the time, but watching the video back now, almost every turn was sliding the rear end. :grimacing:
