Yeah the E karts have bronze, silver, gold, plat (not avail yet).
Think of it like gx390, ka100, x30 and KZ.

Are you close enough to do this league?

Well, since I’m here again I might as well share some sights. I am hopeful Nick and I can get out to the track but in the near-term, we are doing tourist stuff…
I am told that there’s money in the banana stand.
So they just juice up the battery output or are they different karts?
Kart looks like this…
Basically, they can choose top speed. Not sure if max affects bottom end grunt. I think maybe not. Iirc the ones that were bronze accelerated similar to silver but silver had more top end.
It occurs to me that hanging a wheel on the outside kerbing might make some width for the awkwardly cambered final turn onto s/f straight. This will either horrendously imbalance kart and cause embarrassment as one spins through the dusty gravel, plowing across into pit lane, or, not.
One does get the impression that they take a dim view of enthusiastic exploration of bad ideas. This isn’t a place you want to crash at, I think. Best to keep the 20k karts unbent.
Speaking of which, not sure about the tire. Screechy with any degree of input. Seems like a challenge, finding a hard compound that won’t self-destruct under the weight of these vehicles. I wasn’t able to run enough laps to get a sense of how/if they heat up and evolve. I wonder if they are running the OEM tire. Platinum (top speed ) must be interestingly understeer-y.
Want
El Plan has solidified:
6 heats Monday. Spouse/Mom not coming so this time maybe we can send it a bit. I felt like I needed to be very conservative last time around and pretty much just toodle. Let’s see what we can do, this time.
Can’t find tire info in the OTL or K1 site but these seem to be the ones:
These are their hardest compound.
This one sounded juicy:
I was looking at onboards of those karts at full speed, feels like it understeers like crazy.

Honestly looks like no caster whatsoever
Yes, yes it does. I suspect the tire is not up to the task. It is very hard and you hear it start to squeal with minimal turn input.
Heading out in an hour or two and will go get 6 heats in with Nick. I will attempt to go “quick” which means I will likely be sliding around a bit.
I’ve watched onboards as well and while the owner karts seem to do just fine, grip wise, I haven’t seen any e-kart vids that are hooked up and tagging apexes. Lotta pushing through corners.
In the case of SC, with its now very shit tires, (they ditched the Dunlop’s and we lost 2+ seconds), it is fun having low grip because plywood and banking. On asphalt, we shall see.
I guess the current chassis design is not up to the task, considering there is lot more weight on the during than normal karts.
Please record !
Mon Cher Ami, is there any chance I wouldn’t?
The chassis is likely fine. It just seems to be grip that’s low and that’s a tire thing in this case, prolly.
I have been craving one of these since I saw Demuro review the pre-production Euro version like two years ago. When the Buzz depreciates (if it ever does, based on classic VW bus prices…) I am 100% getting one as a kart rig. But $70k for a lifestyle minivan ain’t in the cards for me.
As a people mover and/or road tripper it would be pretty sweet if it had a range extender. 200ish miles per charge is a bit rough for $70k.
Can’t wait until someone gets a breakthrough and we see double the range. Then I’d be really considering electric.
Yes, Nick and ogled these but they ain’t cheap, alas but also much want.
12 heats… and I feel it. Neck and arms.
My son is probably broken. I may have overdone it a bit, given that he hasn’t karted in a long time. If I’m feeling it, he’s likely a wreck.
I got faster, as did Nick, and have a better sense of the (north) track now. Yes the tires are hard and noisy, but it’s OK. The grip is enough.
I’m starting to get in barking distance of decent pace. Isaac, their mechanic, chatted with us and gave us pointers. He tells me his best is 34 flat, and that the fastest is 33.9. I managed to get down to 35s, and Nick managed to get to 36 and change. So, progress.
It’s a fun track and the tire makes it quite challenging. I have much work to do but can see a path to 34.
The karts are surprisingly physical and the speed feels nice. I’m not a speed junky so I was surprised that I enjoyed keeping my foot in. When you get the line right into the first banked corner, where there’s a dip at the apex, and you take it flat, it’s quite a lovely floating feeling.
I like this place.
Pics and vid to follow.
Maybe I missed it but what level/mode were the karts in? Also, is the layout you were running the same that owner karts run? If so, do you know what kind of times those turn? (just looking for some context)
Lots of questions.
