Are kart Beading Bands necessary? I see some people not use them at all and never seem to have issues.
Nah, I do just fine with tongs alone. I used to use a ratchet strap around the tire in the same manner as a bead band, but that really isn’t necessary. You can achieve almost the same effect just by dropping your bodyweight on the tire with your knee/shin.
I don’t know why, but for me I struggle beading tires. Some rims are worse than others but the band prevents over stretching the carcass if you use a lot of air pressure.
Depends on the wheel width and profile in my experience. For the most part I have never had an issue. I have never used a strap around the tire for assistance.
I use a true band to help stretch the rock hard envico blue 6” tires into the 210mm wheels. It helps push the bead onto the wheel so i can build pressure to set the beads.
I may be misunderstanding the reason for using these bands. I thought they were just to prevent damage when setting the bead. Is there some other use?
The only time I need the band is when mounting new Vega’s on 210 mm wheels
I have used straps in the past to help push the beads out enough to seal air and start building pressure.
It is common in LO206 to mount 6" wide tires on 7" rims. Using bands or straps around the tire will help push the beads out wider so you can achieve a seal and seat them. On warm days I could usually get it on the MXC wheels without bands/straps, but some other rims could be a PITA. When it was 45F outside, forget about it… I never used bands, would just wrap straps around the tires at the shoulders.
I have not had any issue beading up 2 stroke tires (7" on 7" rims) on MXJ, MXC, CRG, or my 1 set of Douglas.
