Does anyone know if scrutineering at IKR races allow repaired suits? I’m thinking of putting a patch over it but not sure if it would be allowed. I burned the underside of the arm after I accidently touched the exhaust. Its quite close to the armpit.
I don’t know about IKR specifically but many many many people race with similar holes in suits and have no problems.
Leave as it is. More air into your body. Cools you down.
Many US organization will not scrutinize that as-is. If patched it would certainly not get looked at. Will be a NO if organization is following and actually enforcing FIA standards.
I’ve never seen a suit actually tech’d…just helmets and karts. Well, OK, I did have one time a guy made sure a suit was CIK/FIA, but he didn’t look at the suit, just the tag on collar.
If you still are fearful you can search a good tailor to patch it. Sometimes it isn’t the organization per se but it’s a guy who follows FIA standards.
I raced for about 3 years with literal holes in my knees and I would say 30% of suits I see on the grid have holes in the sides from the rib protector wearing through. Even at national events here, suit scrutineering is basically non-existent. Guys get away with wearing Nomex suits all the time which might as well be a long-sleeve t-shirt when it gets wiped along the asphalt.
In the UK though, no idea what they would consider okay to race in.
Formal at SKUSA Winter Series R1 was in his Lambo Super Trofeo fire suit.
My old Sparco was FIA/CIK -AND- fire rated…that was nice! Just in case the fuel bomb between my legs ever got ignited… I think raw fuel chemical burns, usually in unpleasant places, is a worse hazard than literal fire most cases…
Yeah the series were supposed to be cracking down on that over the past couple years but no one has…
When do they tech suits? is it before the race or if you podium? The sprint karts I go to only tech if you podium. The road racing only techs the helmet prior to getting on track, you need the sticker on your helmet to get on track.
It should be at tech before racing starts, but I’ve never seen a suit checked in the US.
In the UK they check the homologation tag for suit and the helmet certification (amongst a bunch of other tech items) between practice and racing ordinarily.
I would say MOST people with a suit have more than one race or testing weekend…
I wouldn’t worry about it; most don’t scrutinize. Also, it’s not really in a potential contact area (elbows, knees, back, legs).
Most karters have holes here and there due to rib protectors, minor accidents, exhaust/engine burns (especially LO206 karters).
A cool patch will do GREAT!
