KartPulse @ The CKNA Grand Nationals 2023

Got dumped T1 in the LCQ, got back to 17th so I think I would’ve been decent had I kept it clean, but that’s Grands.

No pushbacks meant someone was getting moved on the start, just so happened to be me and the kid ahead of me. I’ll go through my GoPro later this week, I think I got all the races but the 3rd heat when my camera had an issue.

Yeah frustrating weekend for me too, just really struggled to find any speed with the kart. Gave it my best but had some incidents in the heats which was unfortunate and then got squeezed off in the lcq and had no control on the wet grass.

Yeah, I remember getting to you after your incident in heat 2, looked like you were having a hard time keeping the kart under you on entry.

It’s definitely tough out here. This is probably the most grip New Castle has been since MG changed their compounds about 3 or 4 years ago.

Yeah we tried a ton of stuff but still really struggled with getting the rear to stay under me.

@Nagisa98 We each called a couple of winners! Kinda impressive the cream continues to rise to the top.

Well, I was up and down a little bit, my setup changes did not work the way I wanted them to. Running 28 with two to go I decided I didn’t want to wait in the scale line for a mid-pack finish and it was also beer:30, so I needed to get to the cooler stat…

Yeah I didn’t expect the coyotes to be that fast in light and med, that was pretty impressive but besides that all my picks were up there.

I might try this event next year, @CrocIndy @Charles_Kaneb what is the budget for a full tent program ?

You can spend as much as you like, but 400-500 a day for a full arrive and drive with a smaller team may be feasible. Add entry, tires, fuel and you’re looking at like $3k+ for a four day national show?

Our friends at New Gen here in Whiteland are probably the cheapest around. Good dudes with good equipment and everything in house.

I’ll get a 206 and you can come wheel my Exprit!

Oooh. I may have to tent with oktane as well if Tanguy shows up. @tankyx I could be convinced to do this with you.(should you want company).

Maybe I should just have an lo in the garage.

I could un-wad the Merlin I suppose too

Anything that is straight and has a heavy steering is perfect

I am hesitating between this event or renting a KA for Vegas

Oh, do SuperNats. Respect to CKNA Grands, but in the end, SuperNats is still king of one-off events here.

CKNA Grands is more like an enormous club/regional race and SuperNats has a more international level to it. Though some of that appeal is gone with the event moving to Las Vegas Speedway.

ROK Vegas is still at the Rio, but yeah SuperNats is pretty much the one off event in North American karting.

Personally I actually preferred the Westgate when they were racing at the Convention Center.

$3,000 is about right for the CKNA Grands weekend budget, I think I snuck in just a touch under since I didn’t wad anything up (somehow).

I’d imagine the supernats would be a larger financial commitment vs CKNA?
More days, more tires, more accommodation, KA rental, team fees etc etc

Supernats is double at minimum.

Last time I did the math, it was about $6,500 to get the kart on the ground minimum. That was no mechanic, I think 1 set of practice tires, and on my own equipment. That’s before any wrecks/broken parts, protest fees, etc.

I did factor in a tent fee and maybe transport with that number, since going privateer at that event is practically guaranteeing you won’t make Sunday if there’s an LCQ unless you’re a solo top-level program already.

Sounds pretty close @Aaron_Hachmeister_13

Cheapest transpo/tent I’ve seen is $2500 just to get there and have a pit spot… That was a DEAL, too.
