Kid Kart Steering Hub Angle Modification

Hello. I have a tall 7 year old Kid Karter. We have a Nitro kid kart. It has a MPI wheel. My 7 year old is tall. Last year it was a tight squeeze between the seat and the bottom of the steering wheel. Now its really tight. I’m going to bring the pedals forward and that should lower his thighs away from the wheel some. I’m considered taking the steering hub which is 10 degrees and machining it down to 5 degrees. This should open up some room at his thighs and make steering and getting in and out easier. I looked everywhere for a less than 10 degree hub already made thats not 0 degrees and didn’t have luck. Would changing this angle have any adverse affect? From what I gather its more of a comfort angle anyway. Thanks!

I’m not familiar with nitro’s kid kart chassis but are you sure you can’t raise the steering column? Sometimes even if there’s not multiple holes you can flip the bushing upside down to raise the column.

If not, there are adjustable columns out there that allow different angles. I found this one, but it’s not exactly cheap.

Can you move the steering wheel higher? Are there adjustments where the steering support mounts to the frame? Or move the seat back a touch?

If your kid is 7, is it not possible for them to run in Cadet? Micro Swift starts at 7 if I remember correctly, and if they’re struggling to fit into a kid kart it’s probably better to just move up to the next category with a bigger kart

This the bushing that can be flipped? Man would that help so much! @KeslerDesignWorks @Kutschca

Yep! It is set super low like that. Flip it over and you’re all set!

As Derek said. Remove and rotate and you’ve got extra wheel clearance for free!
