KZ thermostat

Any of you KZ guys use a thermostat ? Italian Motors has one that starts opening at 115f, but not fully open until 131f….. is this too high ??? Seems the number I hear/read about is 125f….. in the Ice Age we used 140f of the CR125…

Yes, I have curtain and a roll of tape .. lol :joy:

Thanks,
Bill

I wouldn’t bother with a thermostat for KZ. Just warm up the engine properly before hitting the track and you should have problem building and maintaining temp.

Too much time on the stand…..$$$

Not sure I understand the $$$ comment, but no thermostat for me. Warmup while keeping the pump going is the method I always used. Don’t let it run on neutral too long either

Andy,
I don’t like buzzing an engine on the stand, so it takes me longer to reach operating temp in my area.
For me, warmup time is still time counted for top/bottom rebuilds, so money wasted… for me

I may be the only one mismanaging tape/curtains when driving hard…. Lesson learned on Cosworth engines in FA

Any one here actually used a thermostat on a KZ ?
Very interested in your thoughts…

You can run one, but they do restrict flow. If the weather is cold out I’ve heard they work well, but if it’s hot out they can restrict flow enough to cause the engine to run hotter. You could get one of the hot-head engine pre-heaters if you want to warm it up prior to starting. A heat mat on the radiator might even do a fair job of heating up the coolant.

Thanks,
The one I’m looking at doesn’t fully open until 131f, so that may be a no go…back to the drawing board

You could also get one of the manual flow diverter valves from righetti.
