We FINALLY got our shipment of KZ80 engine packages.
Straight from Motori Seven, we’ve got the L8 engine packages here and turning laps!

Is this an 80cc shifter? I can’t find info on the Google. I see kx80 bike tho.
KZ80 is the class designation we’re using for it.
It’s the Motori Seven L8
80cc, 25 HP, 6 speed speed KZ engine.
Includes paddle shifter, drop on any chassis, no front brakes.
That’s a good deal more horsepower than any number I could find for a stock CR80. Actually, here’s a question - is most 80cc kart racing that has happened up till now been required to run stock, or is it generally open?
homologated KZ? Not sure about that, unless the FIA have opened up a new class
You’re correct. I’ve been answering questions about the L9 and just got in the habit of typing “homologated KZ engine.”
Thanks for the catch.
The Honda 80 ended up as an open class with stock ignition and OEM internal parts rules. Some groups let you you a programmable ignition.
These are pretty much a no touch, run it stock engine.
Well, in that case the KZ80 seems like it will be quite a performance boost.
We have to do some head to head testing with my Honda soon to get a real on track comparison but I think they’ll be pretty similar.
Where is this speed range wise? Faster than a 125 single speed slower than ROK and/or KZ?
This is really cool ! Basically a 80cc kz 25hp with 13000rpm redline?
Does the paddle shifter shift reliably?
It uses a inboard clutch with 428 chain?
Does it have electric start?
So to install this in a driect drive chassis, you would basically put in a shifter axle and that’s it?
Paddle shifters have been rock solid reliable and smooth on all test karts over 3 days of abuse!
428 inboard is correct. Throw a KZ axle.in whatever chassis and rip. No electric start, tho.
We are faster MPH than KAs here this weekend I believe.
In junior trim and weight it’s equivalent to x30 jr or okn jr.
Cant download the homologation from the website. Do you mind post it here?
DM me your email and I’ll send it to you. The Motori Seven USA website will be available soon!
Wonderful news !
this is so badass! we have routinely been getting 20+ drivers in cr80 shifters in norcal. The karting community in USA really needs a nice 25-30hp fairly reliable shifter package that isn’t crazy expensive that runs rear brakes only imo. Great for all the local club guys not looking to have their brain and body exploded by a 125 shifter but still looking for the excitement of gearbox racing.
Any sense of rough estimated pricing on this engine package?
Looks like the URL on Motori’s site is malformed… Here’s the sheet from Motori as I type.

Keep us posted and don’t forget us seniors, we like to bang gears and go to work on Monday too! KZ80 name seems like a bit of an oxymoron, but I’m nitpicking…
I recon a good 80 package with the correct support for drivers and clubs, clear tech rules, tech tools, etc could be very popular with adults at local clubs. Perfect for most tracks, some cost savings running a non-front brake chassis. Drop-in replacement for whatever engine is on the chassis already is the icing on the cake.
Would love to see a four stroke option at this power level, but through my own experience I learned that once you get even close to the power level of a good 80, the potential cost savings of a 4 stroke diminish real quick.
There’s really no way to get close in power without high compression, four valves and high RPM which leaves you with two choices… go with a high quality valvetrain at the outset (Expensive) or go a cheaper route and replace the four valves pretty frequently (also expensive). The only way I was able to make the 4T option work is to reduce the power, run a shorter stroke with a 2v setup using high quality valves and seats.
I’d still like to complete my 4t project just to see if fully realized, but there really is something about wringing the neck out of an 80 around a sprint track.
what’s the expected service interval for this? top end and bottom end hours.
Around $4k on price for the engine package.
To stay at optimum performance, piston somewhere between 5 and 8 hours ($120ish).
Conrod every 4-5 pistons.
We beat the dog shit out of one this weekend and it proved to be one of the most durable shifter engines I’ve ever seen including the Hondas.
